We now have three airfoils specifically designed for KR class airplanes. All are natural laminar flow with very good drag and lift characteristics. The series includes 18%, 16% and 15% airfoils. THere is an outstanding group of aeronautical engineers currently working on sizing new wings for KR class airplanes. Also included is a full scale engineering analysis of stability and control for planes using the new airfoils. THere will be two airfoils tested in the University of Illinois' wind tunnel the second week of May. As a side bar we have gotten the aeronautical engineering department of Texas A&M envolved also. I sanded the wings and cowling for what only seemed like a few minutes and viola' everything is done! Just kidding. I sanded for several hours Friday and Saturday, and it looks like I need to order some more micro balloons from ACS. I bought another balsa block about 3' x 3"x 2" and this seemed to really work well to even out the high & low spots. I have just spot filled the smaller imperfections this morning, and now I'm waiting for the epoxy to cure so I can spray some primer. The tops of the wings and the cowling are looking good. The bottoms of the wings need a major micro session, then a sanding, spackle micro visit I think. Progress, but not too much. Still plugging away at it however. I may go out to the airport and see if I can fire up the engine, but I should really wait until I have the rudder cables re-installed with the pulleys. I got another 1.3 hours of taildragger time in the Cessna-140 Friday. It seems like I'm getting the hang of landing that critter. - -- Regards Ross Ross Youngblood ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Apr 1998 11:17:54 -0700 From: Ross Youngblood Subject: KR: 209 KRNET-L members 35 KRNET-L-DIGEST members There are 209 KRNET-L members and 35 KRNET-L-digest members to date. Thank you! I also want to thank those who have sent donations in the last few months. Although I probably should send out thank you cards etc. I usually jot the names on the back of an envelope, and promptly loose track of it. However, I thank you and your fellow KRNETTERS thank you too. I also want to welcome the new KR-NETers who have joined recently! If you are thinking about building, hopefully this will help you decide if the KR is right for you. If you are already started, you will find a lot of people who have been there before who are happy to help out, or in many cases, give an opinion or two, occasionally helpful. And, if nothing else, KRNET, gives you a way to weekly test the delete feature of your favorite mail software. Thanks for being with us! Other than that, he had no problems with it. -- Regards Ross >> Ross, I did the same thing Tom did and installed an inspection panel over the servo in the elevator. In addition I left some excess wire in the cavity I hogged out in the foam so that I could lower the servo probably 6" out of the cavity. The unit is pretty well self contained, I did this pretty much so that if the unit went south I would have enough wire to splice another unit in with. I installed the 4A unit, most people are installing the 6A unit, the 4 has a travel of .7" and the 6 has a travel of 1.0" and all call for a 1 amp fuse of which you can run the switch and indicator through (no load current of 150 ma) and 40 lbs of thrust. The servos themselves are 1.08" in diameter, they fit in the elevator like they were made for it. The systems come with servo, indicator, rocker switch and clevis/pushrod kit. Menzimer Aircraft Conponents (619) 598-2967, I've had this number for two years so I can't vouch for it's accuracy now.
