The ones I have seen referred to, especially on Subarus, are made by MSD. I think I saw them in the Summit Racing catalog; get a free catalog at www.summitracing.com. As I recall, you have a selector switch which allows you to select between the two systems, but I seem to remember something negative about running on both at the same time. You can also post privately to Paul Messinger at paulm@tenforward.com Paul is a very helpful and knowledgeable person on Subaru conversions, dual ignitions, and other stuff. Oh, and by the way- Summit Racing also has several different 5-point harnesses available in 2" or 3" widths, in colors, for about $60. These are racing harnesses, so must be pretty good. Including electric instruments, etc. etc. I have installed a type 4 engine, and it is heavy. Anyway, now that I won't have electrics, can I do away with the flywheel? Or would the engine tend to tear up the propeller without the flywheel in place to absorb the shock of engine firing? Also, without a starter and alternator, I guess I really wouldn't need the accessory case except for mounting the engine on the airframe. Does anybody have a plan for installing a type-4 without the accessory case? Thanks, Doug peyton Stuttgart. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re:KR logo From: "Wayne DeLisle Sr." Date: Sat, 05 Dec 1998 10:11:19 -0500 X-Message-Number: 6 At 09:40 AM 12/5/98 -0500, you wrote: >How about a picture of a guy with a dejected look on his face sitting in front >of an unfinished airplane surrounded by odds and ends of mismatched components >with his wife standing behind him waging her finger and yelling that she wants >her side of the garage back because its getting to be winter and her car is nt >going to sit out side another year. ahahahahahaa... Also for the ailerons? I guess I didn't really answer the question yet. The hinges are 1-3/4" wide open, .049" thick, and are extruded, although there is evidence that this is overkill for the ailerons, but probably not for the conopy hinge, from what I've seen. (Type 4) the current owner doesnt know much about it but was told it had about the biggest engine you could get. I'll be tearing it apart and measuring everything. I dont really care much for the vehicle. (Could be fun but I MUST KEEP FOCUSED!) It includes 2 engines (one installed and recently rebuilt, one not) 2 spare cases, and as many spare engine parts as you can get in the the back seat. (Behind the Recaros's with the 5 point harnesses.) Also has a couple of 4 into one exhausts plus lots of other pipes, 8 or 10 spare heads, a dozen or so jugs and pistons, a couple of spare cranks, flywheels, cam shafts, distibutors, yada, yada, yada. (its like a portable VW junkyard) Anyhow I recorded the serial numbers on the cases and was wondering if anyone could decipher them for me. I just ordered a VW book but I cant wait for it to arrive. If anyone can help me out they are free to have whatever I dont keep. cases etc. The serial numbers for the engines are (as best as I could read) U0018708 installed engine 0159192 engine in front seat AE546735 extra case F0613868 extra case Any help would be appreciated even a web page link to decipher them Rich Parker richontheroad@hotmail.com theparkers@monad.net http://top.monad.net/~theparkers/kr.htm ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Piano Hinge From: miketnyc@juno.com (Michael C. The Type 4 was put in buses in 1972. I took the flywheel off and the bolt was loose causeing the endplay and rear main to leak. You guys were right on, I think i'll stick with 1835 for now as the rest of the engine looks fine. About the ignition, with the coil switcher\ isolator from MSD can I run the one mag that i have and an electronic ignition through one spark plug? It sounds as though it's not a problem if I use two electronic systems in one distributor, but since I already have the mag setup i'd like to use it too. And if I can run the two systems together does anyone make a distributer that will fit under the cowling? The one from great plains I believe is short enough, but is it a mini mag setup, points, or electronic ignition? Electronic ignition sounds to be the most reliable and by far the cheapest, if anyone knows a way to make it work without the hump in the cowling please let me know.
