As long as you don't run any file you find on your disk named Happy99.exe, you should be ok according to a posting I read on a newsgroup. If you do find one, trash it before you run it. Make sure you have the latest updates to your virus file software. For some software, this is a list that can be downloaded, for others, you need an updater for the actual application. For Symantec, point your browser to http://www.symantec.com/us.index.html as a start. For removal instructions if you think you have been infected, go to the url Mike Mims posted, http://www.icon.co.zw/happy99.htm Sorry for the non-KR posting, but this is the first time I have actually seen a virus post itself to a list. :) Robert Covington >What is the Happy99 > Internet Worm? > > Happy99.exe was first > identified around > mid-January and is now > traveling across the > Internet via e-mail > attachments and > newsgroup postings. > > The worm modifies e-mails > and newsgroup postings by > adding unauthorized > attachments without the > computer user's > knowledge. I agree that support and service from RR is terrible at best, the plans are a mis-mash of put together and require extensive study and innovation. As for RR support, I have never had any question satisfactorily answered, never sent items or information requested, even after being promised. That said, my choice was still the KR2S for the reason it is very economical to build, the amount of builder help available is is unbelievable and the number flying attest to its basic good design. I hope to fly later this year, have stuck to the plans very closely, exception being seats, canopy and engine. It has had some very frustrating moments, but the satisfaction far outweighs the disappointments. GO FOR IT !!!!! Lee" Date: Thu, 4 Mar 1999 18:15:33 -0500 X-Message-Number: 14 Mike Mimms did a pretty good job of slaming the Ivo Prop. I for one am in complete disagreement with his perspective. I have flown behind an ivo prop and it was quite amasing to me to be able to slow down the engine and speed up the airplane! That is indeed getting a free lunch! I have purchased an ivo prop for my KR-2 and am looking forward to using it. The support from Ivo to their customers has been very good. I have received service notes on the updates that have occured on the prop and at one point, they even replaced the blades at no charge to me. Anyone who has attended the forums at Oshkosh will know the name of John Roncz. He is the engineer that designed the props for the Voyager that made the round-the-world unrefuled flight. In his forum on props at Oshkosh he developed the theory of adjustable props and his opinion was that the most efficient design was to have spanwise adjustable twist in the blades. This is exactly the way that the Ivo Prop was designed. Not to paint an overly rosey picture, there have been some failures of Ivo Props in the past. Ivo has addressed the problems and does a good job of communicating with their customers to make sure good information is desciminated. The prop is not without maintenance, so it is more effort to use than a wooden prop. The question is if you want the increased performance more than you don't want the increased cost and maintenance. The answer on an inflight adjustable prop is just like every other decision you make on your KR, "it depends"! What do you want, and what are you willing to do to get it? I for one like to work on my plane and like to go fast so the issues of cost and maintenance on the Ivo Prop don't push me away. The good news is, we all get to make our own choices. I am sure you will get a few opinions on this but keep in mind that on some of Rutans designs the cables take a 90 degree turn inside nyla-flo (spelling) tubing. I used the nylon tubing for my rudder cables and they seem to work ok. We all had high hopes that they would work out, we wanted them to work out because we wanted a good not so expensive adjustable pitch prop. One was on a Glasair 160HP he had trouble after trouble with it and sent it back several times to be fixed and looked over by the factory, he finally gave up and bought a Prince Prop. The Prince Prop was about 12-15 MPH faster. The Ivo when working would get him off the ground faster but at altitude was slower. The other friend had a B&T prop on his European Cozy 3 place that was made by Larry at Featherlite. Jerry is a current Airforce pilot and is very careful with what he does. He wanted to try an Ivo, he thought it would work and that the other friend with the Glasair was maybe just not doing something right. So he ordered one for his 160HP Cozy. Yes he could get off the ground faster and climb better but he to lost at least 15MPH at the top. He also had problems and sent it back to Ivo. When he received it back and while installing it with the bolts that Ivo sent with the prop during the torqueing (is that a word ?) process one of the bolts twisted off, we were all very surprised. Jerry was following the Ivo recommendations exactly. Long story made short Jerry wasn't happy and reinstalled the B&T and is flying well. The point here is again that we wanted these props to work but just did not feel safe using them after experiencing them for ourselves. Good Luck to anyone trying these props I really do hope they work out but it may not be worth your Life to find out, and please do not think I am being negative what is stated here is the truth.
