I finally got around to researching the correct pumps to use to get the ratio right for AeroPoxy, and it turns out that with the West System 303-A mini pumps you get a perfect 3:1 ratio. I bought the pumps and the plastic containers all told for under $10. See the construction details at http://members.aol.com/lee810/pump.html This is not my idea, but it's a great one! No more eyeballing, marking measuring cups, or wasting epoxy. That's what I love about these lists... all the excellent ideas! (once you cut through the fluff). And another great idea proved its worth: the "use peel ply all over" idea was tried and proven. I used it on a layup yesterday, and after the "rrrip!" it left a really nice, ready-to-finish surface on my top deck. I guess it's worth the cost of the peel ply to get that factory finish. The longer I hold full trottle in level flight, the speed and the RPM will begin to increase above 3200(I have seen 3400RPM). I try to limit RPM to 3200. A friend built a KR-2 and flew it about three times and the engine quit on final and scared him so much that the plane has been sitting for seven (7) years now. I told him I would help him get it running and then buy it or buy a half interest in it if he still wanted to fly it. He was only 17 when he flew it and had just gotten his license. I wouldn't want him to call off flying altogether if I can convince him that The carb is OK and just needs some adjustment. A little history. This KR is the one that Gerry Spiece (Correct spelling?) was building when he decided to build a boat and sail the Atlantic. The boat was The Yankee Girl, The 10' sailboat that sailed across the atlantic some time ago. I also almost built a KR2 about ten years ago but had to sell it before I finished. Too bad I didn't have a computer and this group then. Every thing needed to finish was there including the engine and prop and I sold for $1,000 just needed to foam the wings and decks and paint. But how many remember Dave or Joe? There is a lot of history about home-builts not known by current aficianados. Most of the guys who "did their thing" aren't around any more. It was a glorious century. Unfortunately, some lesser persons capitalized on the concept, and became Hall-of-Famer's, celebrity-seeking personalities flying on the accomplishments of those non egoistic accomplishers who just "did it." But, that's the "American Way," n'est ce pas? I don't recall exactly who said something about repeating the past by not being attentive, but it surely is apparent here. My mentor in WV back in the '40s was Hubert Stark, one of the original CAP guys, who was married to one of the original 99s. Somewhere, I have a pic of "Colonel Stark" upon which he inscribed the admonition of his mother: "Always fly low, and slow." Perhaps, before I expire, I'll pass on what he learned. Never thirst. --------------6A8864BE6769B434A28DAE6F Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="budm303.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Bud Martin Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="budm303.vcf" begin:vcard n:; tel;home:3034200940 tel;work:8006490875 x-mozilla-html:FALSE url:http://www.command.org org:Command Company adr:;;7172 Swadley Ct;Arvada;CO;80004-1253;USA version:2.1 email;internet:budm303@earthlink.net note;quoted-printable:USN/USAF (Ret.) This really depends on how much time YOU can put aside to work on your project. I only work on mine about 5 months out of the year and even then its part time. You can build a KR in as little as a year or as long as ???? Personally I think you should set aside 3 to 5 years if you plan to work on it in your spare time. -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Micheal Mims Filling and Sanding again! http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/4136/ http://members.home.com/mikemims/ Aliso Viejo CA ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: VW REdution unit From: Mike Mims Date: Mon, 26 Jul 1999 19:51:55 -0700 X-Message-Number: 17 Did you guys see that Steve now has a reduction unit?
