Trying to get it going. Had a pretty good turnout last year. Everybody is invited. Bring "them" KRs, or anything else, on over. The date is September 11, l999. Site is Northwest Alabama Regional Airport (formerly Muscle Shoals Regional). KMSL. At Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Any one else within "earshot" of this post is welcome. Dana - would be a nice little trip for the "new Baby". About 143 sm south of Lake Barkley. Incidentally, I had a 1947 straight Bonanza in about l963. Had a brand new '63 paint job on it so it looked like a 1963. Mine was stock though, with the 185 hp E-185 and Aeromatic prop. Needless to say, I didn't get that kind of speed, but I loved the airplane. Enjoyed your flight report. Congratulations on the new bird. With a little luck, I'll have both my KR 1 and KR 2 at the fly-in. It made one heck of a difference in smoothness of the roll as well as rolling resistence. I'm thinking that positioning the trim servo in the stabilizer instead of in the elevator would suffice, but I wonder about a few things perhaps you could answer. Does the trim setting at straight and level remain stable? With the extra anti-servo action, the trim tab is constantly moving slightly. What is your feeling about the anti-servo action? Would you build it again? Have you been able to compare it to other KR's? Do you have the nylon pushrod or electric servo? At full elevator deflection there would be quite a bit of force on the trim tab, can it push the trim lever out of trim? Would a standard trim push rod be enough to handle the additional forces? I would imagine that in landing flare you would definitely have a lot more stick pressure, and in cruise the tab would have a stabilizing effect on the elevator. Perhaps the anti-servo movement is too slight at cruise settings to make a difference? How much anti-servo movement do you get at full elevator deflection with neutral trim? For those on the list who don't know what an anti-servo tab does, it's like a trim tab in construction and size, but it is linkaged directly to the elevator itself, and pushes the elevator opposite to the direction of elevator movement, thus increasing control pressures. It's the opposite of a servo tab which helps you move the controls. What Gary has done is modified the trim tab to act as an anti-servo tab as well, yielding a combination tab. -Tom Andersen Orlando, FL -----Original Message----- From: GARYKR2@cs.com To: KR-net users group Date: Friday, August 27, 1999 9:03 PM Subject: [kr-net] Re: Elevator trim tab > >I have have a lot less than 4X10. If you make a change (most any) and subsequently have an incident or disaster of any kind, it's because of an unapproved change. In other words, it won't be the FAA's fault. Also, be aware of impact on your insurance If you make it to the next inspection, then it was a minor change. In many cases, they'll approve it with a brief flight teest period. My suggestion to not send attachments on KTNET is targeted to the virus's we are currently not protected against. "New" virus's like the new happy99.exe that was spread a few months back. It hit every major newsgroup including KRNET. Norton and McCaffe and other virus protextion companies scrambled to add this virus fix to their software updates and laughed all the way to the bank. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: KR-net users group Sent: Saturday, August 28, 1999 10:22 AM Subject: [kr-net] Re: Suggestion for KRNet attacment policy > Any time I open an attachment, I open to a floppy disk and then scan it to > make sure that it is clean. Everyone ought to learn to cut and paste which cuts the attachments. I've even quit opening attachments from close friends unless they are very compuker savvy. Even then, I have my doubts. When we learn to cut and paste, we might also be able to use (sometimes) a new subject line. The un-written rule is NO ATTACHMENTS are to be sent to the KRNet period! If we all abide by this rule we can just assume that any attachment is a VIRUS. If some of you have pictures you want to show others on the list, email them to one of us who maintains a web site and we will post it for you. -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Micheal Mims Filling and Sanding again! http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/270/ http://members.home.com/mikemims/ Aliso Viejo CA ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re:Fuel From: Bobby Muse Date: Sat, 28 Aug 1999 18:50:10 -0500 X-Message-Number: 12 I would like to know from you guys... Which auto gas is best to use with my Safe-T-epoxy built fuel tank? I had used Amoco Premium auto gas in Georgia and Tennessee and my KR ran better than when I used Avgas. I heard that Avgas has four times the lead in it that the VW(Revmaster 2100D) was designed to use. When I use only Avgas I get lead build up on the valve seats which results in burnt or leaking valves. In 5 years I have never had a problem with my fuel tank or any fuel leaks and I don't want one now, but I do want to use auto gas along with some Avgas. I can't get Amoco gas here in south central Texas and I am concerned about the additives that the gas companies are adding to the gas. Does anyone know? Date: Sat, 28 Aug 1999 19:43:37 -0700 X-Message-Number: 13 I flew off another 2 hrs. (32 to go) on the KR2 this morning. Loads of fun! I am really happy to have it flying. I put in some of the blue seat foam this time. It's a lot more comfortable than the hardware store foam that was in there. Well worth the cost. Last week I replaced the elevator control horn. The guy who made it had hack sawed a little into one of the corners (no radius) and I've been wondering for a year if I could replace it without cutting anything. Yes, it can be done, but it wasn't easy to get it out or put the new one back in. I figure about 8 hrs total. The outer wing panels had a slightly flat spot running outward, right above the front spars. I guess the original builder didn't want to add any weight so he left it alone. I filled it last week, sanded to a nice contour, and primed. This lowered the stall speed 3-4 mph and it feels like it climbs better (too little hard data before the change to be sure). The primer (Smooth Prim* rolled on) is pretty rough so this may change again when I sand it some more. Boundry layers and separation points are more than I want to think about right now. It's easy to test. Put a small amount of water into a bottle and mark the water level. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with fuel from your favorite gas station. Shake some then see what the water level is when it precipitates back out in a couple of minutes. If the water level has gone down, that's because some of it is suspended in the alcohol in the gas. If the water level doesn't change, there's no alcohol in the gas. Be sure to check periodically until you have confidence that the gas station consistantly does not have alcohol additives. Also make sure you check in the winter as alcohol is routinely blended in much more often during winter months.
