Look on page 312 (1998-1999 catalog) of Airplane Spruce catalog at the "MISSING LINK VACUUM PUMP DRIVE SYSTEM" for VW airplane engines. I am the inventor of the system. The system has over 150 hours @ 4200 RPM's on the test stand. Some of the hours were put on at fly-ins that the system ran over 8 hours with out stopping. I have mounted a 4 cylinder on my Loehle 51. I weighs about 175 lbs all up, including reduction from Reductions out of Canada (great reduction unit) You can order a manual for it from Swagaero out of Tucson. I built all of the necessary hardware for it including motor mounts. You will probably get close to 80 hp out of it. I am offering to build the necessary parts for it, which takes some tools to do, I can do this for the parts other than what the builder wants to do for himself. There are several homebuilts flying with this engine. I purchased my engine from salvage. It had only 7000 miles on it. Cost me $500.00. You will end up spending a total of around $2000.00 for it. Cheaper than most isn't it. These engines are good engines, and will go over 200,000 mile if properly serviced. Your further questions are welcomed. The wax will be removed carefully before painting (with gas, tetrachloride of carbon, nail polish remover, etc. and then to sand with fine sandpaper) To make the mold you can use the plastered bandages of use in orthopedics, they are cheap, gives you a good surface and even a strong structures of support (after everything, it is one of the first reinforced plastics known by the man) Cordial greetings Eduardo emiglesias@cpenet.com.ar ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: fuel gage From: Tom Raby GRE/ER PwrSysOp Date: Thu, 2 Sep 1999 16:57:43 -0500 X-Message-Number: 10 This looks like a great idea. I certainly wouldn't have done it THAT way though! If you can turn that into something of an epoxied scarf joint you'll probably be OK, since that spar is probably more in compression than anything else. If you cut the whole aft spar out and replace it, you're going to have a real problem connecting it back to the fuselage at the bottom (without your overlapping plywood) and may have an even worse situation when you're done. A plywood reinforcement on both sides would be nice too, as much as you can get away with without impeding elevator bellcrank movement. I guess I can see the intent, but I figure I can always cut the elevator out and work on it or replace it if I have to, but chances are excellent that I'll never have to with my oilite bushings, and especially if I'd used Dr. Dean's spherical bearings for hinges. Next- I was wondering if anyone had used the Prince P-tip prop on a kr yet, and if so- how did it perform and was it actually quieter? The way the pitch changes about four inches from climb to cruise and the design of the prop tips make it sound like the ideal new prop. I called them and they recomemded a 52 by 48 inch for the 1835 vw, does this sound right? they know a lot more about props than i do, but i was curious if anyone else had used thier product. If anyone recommends a different product or pitch, i'm all ears. The airplane weights around 600 pounds and cruises at 115 kts. (convent. fixed gear- no wheel pants) i'm really hoping a new prop will pick up some speed. Jesse Klebsch 314 E. Penn. When reading email (particularly if you haven't checked it for a day or so) I often see topics that I think I can respond to. But rather than blurt out a reply, I'll open up a "reply" and then leave it in the background, just in case. Then, if during my email reading session I discover that someone else has sufficiently answered the question, I'll delete my reply. This way I don't contribute to the clutter that occurs when somebody asks a question that 10 other people give the same answer to (like the N-number database). On the other hand, I realize that our KRNet server gets really lazy, and our replies don't actually surface for hours (sometimes DAYS) after they're sent, so I can see how mulitple replies can happen. I sent one this 6 hours ago that I hope never surfaces, where I said the vertical stabilizer spar is mostly in compression. Maybe so as far as tail structure is concerned, but I wasn't thinking about the rudder hanging back there. But that's all that I'd change about that post...
