Re: tent for gathering ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Thrust Line Location From: "Doug Peyton" Date: Tue, 07 Sep 1999 11:28:02 GMT X-Message-Number: 1 I think the thrust line location depends on the height of your canopy; that's why the plans don't really talk about it. That Ken Rand must have really been a genius, he thought of everything! I built my canopy 6" higher because I should sit on top of the spars - I weigh almost 300 pounds, and if I slung a sling seat, I might destroy the rear spar when I hit a bump. So anyway, it seems to me that my thrust line needs to be a little higher to counter the extra wind pressure on the extended canopy. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Progress and weights From: "Ronald R. Bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Stick time From: "Jim Sellars" Date: Tue, 7 Sep 1999 17:10:16 -0300 X-Message-Number: 6 Folks; I have now joined the ranks of the pilots who actually have operated the controls of a KR2 at high speed flight, aft C of G, on a hot day to fully experience the level of "squirrelliness"( hope that's spelled right). I am pleased to tell you that I can't get the smile off my face. Progress on my bird has risen to warp speed, and I hope to make the Kentucky Gathering. What a rush flying this little bird. I visited Kip Lounsbury in Millinocket,Maine, over the labour day weekend. At 7 am I was waiting for him to fly in from his location down at Lincoln. It was already hot and that's a rare thing in the north and at that hour in the morning. I heard him over the radio at the airport, he was inbound, having left Lincoln 6 minutes before, and then in the distance I heard the low growl of the 2100 revmaster. He made a low pass over the secondary runway as promised and then climbed out to make a circuit, on the active, with a roar. I was filled with some butterflies at the sight of this "fighter plane" screaming past . Can I manage the responsiveness? can I handle the "G" loads etc. ? Hey next scene Kip taxies up to the terminal and we re-introduce ourselves. Jump in and let's get going. A little taxy practice, first, Kip suggests. Next we're off into the wild blue. Gear up and let's get level to see what speeds this Revmaster with the worthless Posa carberator will make. Holy KaKa Batman is that 170 knots I see, surely the airspeed is broken, My flying Sphincter !!! the GPS says 170 knots too!!!. I got the pitch under control and Yes it's touchy but never worse than like this Kip says; " Two fat guys on a hot day". "If you can manage this you will have no problem when you're alone, and the C of G is where it should be". I did steep turns and climbs and descents, and basically blew that little bird all over that northern Maine sky following the interstate at 170 knots is a rush let me tell you. Any way folks I'm still laughing to myself about it. Thanks Kip, you're a great coach.
