When considering the gross weigth for the static = test, do > you discount the weight of the wings? I made a fairly long general answer to this one several days ago. It should be in the archive. There are reference materials available for more specific answers. As to duration of the test, if you are testing to the "normal" loading (i.e., the G loading that you will not ordinarily exceed), you will not need to leave the load in place. Long duration loading will check a material behavior known as "creep". Creep is the way that a structure will deform over time with an applied load.=20 That is not typically a problem with our type of airplanes. We are concerned with cyclic loading. Fortunately, wood is very resistant to cyclic failure and the metal wing fittings are sufficiently strong that cyclic failure is not a problem. --=20 Don Reid Bumpass, Va. mailto:donreid@erols.com KR2XL at http://www.erols.com/donreid/kr_page.htm Ultralights at http://www.erols.com/donreid/usua250.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Tiedowns From: KRBLUCH@aol.com Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 11:16:31 EDT X-Message-Number: 7 Dana, Thanks for the info on the tiedowns at Cadiz. When you have the dinner-meeting Saturday evening I would like to suggest that next year the Gathering be held at West Texas Airport (TX04). I tried this at Perry last year but you all did not listen, but then again most people do not listen to me anyway but maybe you will this year. We have beautiful weather most of the time. We have a 7000' runway. Mexico is just across the way a little. We have plenty of Hotels and Motels. There is plenty of hanger storage, (just in case the weather does get bad, which does not happen very often). Transportation can be made available. Please mention this to the gathering and say hello to Bob Muse for me. If you all decide to have the gathering here I will attend. Aeroflash makes a kit that includes everything you need (red/green position lights, strobes/power supply, and white lights) that just attaches to the wing tips. it would be much easier to install than four seperate lights, but the price is over 400 dollars. i was hoping someone had rigged up something much cheaper and still not take weeks to install. next questions is- are the nav position, strobe and instrument lights the only thing i need to fly legally at night? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Next Year From: Mike Mims Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 19:39:16 -0700 X-Message-Number: 15 DClarke351@aol.com wrote: > > > I would like to suggest that next year the Gathering be held at West Texas > Airport (TX04). The problem is its just not as simple as saying have the gathering here or there. I am sure that West Texas Airport would be a great place to have it but is there anyone there that wants to host it? I noticed you said you would attend as it sound like it would be very convenient for you but are you willing to host the gathering? If not you is there someone in your area that will? 99.9% of the time the gathering is where ever someone says they will host it. That's pretty much how it was when I went in 96 & 97, someone said I will host it and that was that. I would love to have the gathering here at the Chino airport but I aint gonna host it! :o) -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Micheal Mims Building New Gear Legs http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/270/ http://www.evansville.net/~boeing/project_viking/ http://members.home.com/mikemims/ Aliso Viejo CA ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Next Year From: DClarke351@aol.com Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 22:58:34 EDT X-Message-Number: 16 We are willing to host . The problem is that your airworthyness certificate says your plane is restricted to daytime. I believe you need to have it re-inspected to get a new airworthyness and get that restriction lifted. A call to the FSDO office in Des Moines should get you the answer for the minimum equipment your area of the FAA will require. It does vary due to different local interpretations. Realistically, nobody will ever check unless you are involved in a nighttime accident.. If you want good equipment that has a bright flash, then it will cost you $$. The Aeroflash unit is about the most econimical for decent equipment. Mine has the same units except that they are the Whelen package. You'll see them in about 10 days. :o) Since I'll have to buy fuel over in Ottumwa, I'll be sure to give you a shout. Thought maybe we could fly over to Red Oak to see Mike Garbez and N998MG if you have the time. Nice little privately owned airport that even has it's own museum complete with a KR-1 hanging from the ceiling and the flight line very close to the runway. Another Warbird museum at Santa Teresa just a few miles away and Frank Borman's hanger and collection including the P-63 and P-51 about 20 minutes away in Las Cruces, NM.
