And you are correct, I have never heard of a stock T4 crank breaking. -- Tom Crawford Gainesville, FL N262TC Mailto:toys@atlantic.net http://www.tomshardwoodtoys.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 12:52:48 -0500 To: From: "The House of D's" Subject: KR1 Message-ID: ------=_NextPart_000_0000_01BFAD22.D3F97EA0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Have a KR1 that I bought already built and flying. It shouldn't affect the glaas at all but try it out on a scrap chunk or hidden section first. If you can avoid having to sand and repolish then your better off. To do that you start off at 600 grit wet and work your way upto 2000 before switching to compunds. It's not hard to do but it does involve a bit of patience and elbow grease to get things back upto snuff. I'd send this direct to Lee but I'm at work and don't have all of my recent messages here, which is where I'd get his email address from. Troy lives in Columbia and his home phone number is 931-381-7680. If he's out flying (for days at a time), his wife will tell you to page him and give you his pager number. Leave him a quick voice message and he'll call you back when he lands. Ask him where Dean Selby lives while you've got him on the phone. Dean is closer to Knoxville (I think), and is lacking only paint before he flies his KR2S with the new airfoil. I'm dying to see this one myself... Sun 'N Fun was a big success this year. We gave three forums, displayed the engine, a KR installation, and components of the 3,200cc motor. Several of you took us up on our offer to visit the hangar in Daytona Beach. We flew the airplane on days which we were not giving forums. We sold a lot of parts, solved some technical problems for people, and caught up with a lot of friends from "Corvairland." Many people expressed an interest in having a technical seminar at the hangar. Right now, we are tentatively planning a four-day open house Memorial Day weekend. The idea is to have builders bring their parts and individual expertise, and together we will assemble motors, test run them, build motor mounts, make parts, fly the Corvair-powered Pietenpol, and discuss future technical improvements. The seminar is not limited to just Corvair motors. If you are having some difficulty with any piece of your airframe, feel free to bring it and we'll take care of it on the spot. We are going to do this at no cost to our guests. This is all about sharing what we know and making new friends. Several people have already called to say they're coming and would be glad to share the ride with others. If you're interested in this, call or write me soon or carpool amongst yourselves. This will also be a social event to promote camaraderie among builders. Wives and girlfriends are welcome (but as Grace pointed out, not both at the same time). Hopefully, everyone would go home from their first "Corvair College" with some new skills, freshly made parts, some flight time, a lot of information and enthusiasm, and a bunch of new friends. Motels are cheap in Daytona, and for the truly hardy, camp with the mosquitoes in my sweltering back yard, I'll have a trophy made for anyone who actually camps there (no one would actually want to stay on the couch, it belongs to the cat). Call us any time. It features all the KR aircraft (17 total I think) which were at the gathering. There are close up views of fly by's, spot landing contest, static line displays, air footage of the airport and area, scenic shots of Lake Barkley, the local deer and even part of the award banquet. A must see if you were not there or even if you were, for the memories. Not a professional tape, but pretty darn good!
