I am at the stage where the new engine is running. The the replacement engine is a 2.3 Liter type 4, the old one was a type 4 of 2.0 Liters. The other difference in the two engines is in the accessory cases, the old one a VolksPower and the new one a Diehl Case. The differences have causes a host of changes including engine mount, electric and other less obvious changes like the baffeling, size of the needle in the carb and the way the cowling fits and which size spacer to use on the prop. Finally I'm at the point of test running with the cowling in place. Today the ramp was 85, excellent for Mich spring time. # 3 cylinder was the hottest at 325 deg and the oil finally stopped me at 220 deg. As I was running at low power to try to cool the oil, the engine hesitated several times. at first I thought the new engine was about to sieze. After shut down, I found the prop free to turn. I got my meter out, put on the temp probe and confirmed that the # 3 was the hottest, now only 290 deg. I finally realized that the baffeling was so tight that the back side of the engine and accessories did not have any cool air, and my gasolator was allowing the fuel to boil. Tomorrow I will install It's cover and the cooling tube to the pressure side of the cowl. I don't think that's the case. Traffic has certainly dropped, but I don't think many technical answers have bypassed the group. I'm with Joe. I think folks are just busy doing outdoors stuff since the weather's gotten nice. If you need more general aviation knowledge in your life, start reading rec.aviation.homebuilt news. That should keep you busy. And I think Mike Mims X-planes forum was created for this very purpose. I'm sure there are others as well. And I don't get it when you say that it's not worth subscribing to this mail list because you "only" get a little technical information. So NONE is better? I really don't understand the problem here. Just because we've handicapped the guys that can only operate on a knee-jerk level we've killed the list? If I wanted high quality competent technical information, I'm not sure I'd trust a reply from a guy who: A) couldn't send an email to the right place, or B) didn't have enough presence of mind to figure out that he never saw his reply appear on KRNet. Maybe I'm missing something, but don't all email readers have a "Reply to All" button? If not, is krnet@mailinglists.org THAT hard to remember? It's been real... If you have it tight enough that you are worried about the gap (I was), take some wet or dry paper, wrap it around the contour, and pull it evenly back and forth. The phone number of the lodge is 1-800-325-1708. All reservations must be made 60 days prior to the event. All rooms not taken by that date will be turned over the public and will immediately be taken. At this time there are still some rooms available along with a couple of cabins. The nearest commercial airport is Nashville. I am talking with the same people who catered the event last year. We will have dinner at the airport Friday night and lunch at the airport Saturday. The banquet will be held on the grounds of the park Saturday night. We will not have to drive to get to the banquet like last year. Folks, this is a very family oriented park. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Plan on bringing the entire family. You guys who came last year.......it's going to be better this year!!!!!!! Mine's not hooked to an engine yet, but the features are just what I need, especially the alarm function. Here's the latest view of my panel at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/00051003.jpg .
