"The "Official" 2000 KR Gathering will be at Lake Barkley State Park in far western Kentucky on the twin lakes. The dates are Friday, September 22 and Saturday the 23d, but some folks will show up on Thursday to get things set up. The phone number for reservations is 1-800-325-1708. Since the Park is booked up, you'll probably have to find a room somewhere in Cadiz, Kentucky. Dana Overall is hosting the affair this year. You can expect about 15-25 KR aircraft to fly in for the Gathering, depending on weather. This is THE place to put your hand on real KR aircraft so don't miss it! Most everybody that wants a ride in one gets it. You won't likely forget it soon either. We will once again have dinner catered Friday evening along with lunch on Saturday." N110LR was out again Saturday. We ventured 30 miles from home to a small fly in community with a 2500 ft. paved runway. This trip demonstrated the need to learn to fly the airplane again after the long down time. To land the KR on a short narrow runway, you must control your approach speed. All KR drivers know that the KR does not like to slow down. Anyone can land at my home port PTK Mich. The small port makes a pilot out of you. I looked good on video, but from my view point I needed a lot more practice to feel OK. On the excitement sceen, I did make a pass for the friends on the ground and made some real airplane noise while passing things at 160 MPH. My goal with my experimental was to aquire an aircraft by building that I could legally maintain and fly cheap. My goals have changed slightly over the 16 years that I have had a relationship with N110LR, now I want to be able to fly anytime anywhere, and not feel that I have the worst example of the type. Building my aircraft was only a means to an end (To fly) I have learned that it is on show no matter where it goes, it has to look good. To that point we have a long way to go. Learning my KR over again. The plane flys pretty good. the engine still needs more work. Wide open I did see 3100 and the speed read 130MPH. The plane was faster then this with the old engine. I suspect the difference might be in the compression ratio. The EGT still reads +1400 at full Throttle. I plan to re-jet the Rev flow on my next trip to the airport. On a long climbout the Oil Temp and CHT were 200 oil and 380 to 400 CHT. At a curise of 120 MPH, all the numbers looked good. 1375 deg, 350 on #3 and 170 oil. My oil cooler is installed as stock for the Type4. This installation somewhat blocks the right cowl inlet. I am contemplating changing the location to the top of the case. I think this will allow more air to enter the cowl for cooling both the oil and the two rear cylinders. At the present time I don't feel that I could make an extended climb to say 5K ft, without lowering the climb rate to prevent overheating. The timing seems a bit off and I cant tell in which direction. Once the mixture is set in concrete I will start to work on the timing. The engine speed needs to be increased and after every thing ealse is finished I plan to trim the prop to increase engine speed. Ed Sterba says that I will only get an increase of about 200 RPM. Besides all of the above I have to get both of us ready for Barkley. Only 5 weeks to go guys. My gps says that the trip for me From PTK in Mich to Barkley is 418KM. I need to make a few longer trips to check out fuel burn. I also need to find out what altitude the plane is capable of curising at. I also plan to load the plane up to gross and see what that tells me about climb and handling, or possibly a passenger. The food was great and the guest speaker was really outstanding (WWII B-25 pilot who did a low pass over General McArthur's house during the war and broke his dishes). Several KR builders were there who enjoyed looking over Terry’s KR-2 and his KR-2S in construction. About 20-30 people were there from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Lots of good KR information was exchanged. Terry’s KR-2S in construction is probably going to be one for the KR record books. The boat is finished and he is in the process of making the wings. He has widened the fuselage. It has an O235 engine mounted up front and the new wing design. The wing construction is per the “Langford” construction method including aileron controls. The outer wing spars are permanently attached to the centers. It is a fixed gear tail dragger with Diehl legs. Terry can probably give more details, but just about every one who looked at it was impressed with the possibilities. Terry’s KR-2 was there as well to provide a flying example. It is a stock size KR-2 with tri-gear and Revmaster 2100 engine. I managed to be small enough to fit into the stock KR-2 with Terry and got a night ride with him. It’s a great flying airplane. I am only a trigear high wing Cessna pilot but I was able to manage his airplane fairly well in straight and level and turns. Terry took over the controls and did a couple low passes over the airfield for show. Overall it was a great time, thanks Terry. [ 43K] I will have my KR2 that I am flying and, so far it looks like about 8 KR builders and 3 KR2s may fly in. For people not wanting to campout the motel rates in town run $30 single and $35 double. Also there will be a tech counsulor there to look over my plane and answer any questions we may have. There will be a World War II speaker after dinner and I will be giving a fiberglass demonstration. Then maybe we will have time for some moonlight rides. If coming in on 56 from the west it will be one mile east from Marion and south 1/2 mile. Coming from the east on 150 go to 77 then go 1 mile south then take 56 west one mile then back south !/2mile. They waive shipping for all orders over $40.00. For me it was very convenient. Here is their information.
