After being trapped behind the front both sunday and monday, I slipped thru the early morning mist, and climbed away from the site of the gathering, leaving Martin, Steve John and Ron on the cold dew laden ramp. My special thanks go to Dana and all the others who made this gathering possible. This was my first gathering in 16 years with my KR. I arrived Saturday, only in time for the Meeting. My engine ran rough all the way down and back. I spent friday afternoon and most of saturday In Indiana troubleshooting the engine. I'm sure the problem is related to the fuel delivery and metering system. Now that we are home with all the proper equipment, I'll find the problem. I enjoyed meeting some of the faces that go with the e-mail addresses. It will be October 27&28. Friday arrivals will be treated to the best Green Chili Stew in the Southwest. Saturday will be race day with a division for every one. The course is a 100 mile closed triangle with two check points. Fast planes first, then all the way down to a powered parachute if the winds are good (I hope he has a good bladder). The Fly-In will be all day with lots of activities for all including an paper airplane race and young eagles flights. The location is the Artesia Municipal Airport, Artesia NM. This is my 9th in a row. However, I just got home. Steve, Marti, Orma and I left this morning. Rain, Mist, Fog, Low Clouds and such kept us stranded. Yesterday, Monday, we finally found a rental car and left the DRY COUNTY to find relief. Overall we have VERY clean airplanes with all of the rain and I believe that we have now officially Rain tested the KR's. Sorry about the poor weather and the lack of KR's. We did have a good time however and we were the first to arrive and the last to leave. More later. Time to visit with the wife. By the way, great picture Mark! Also make sure the grain of the dowel is matched to the grain of the hole you are filling. After the T-88 cures simply sand the dowel flush with the surface of the spars. T-88 is an excellent gap filler up to a certain point, then the epoxy will fail. This was demonstrated at the Gathering last weekend. A properly fitted T-88 joint under stress will not fail. The wood will actually break before the epoxy. The wing attachment fittings develop their strength by the through bolts bearing against the wood in the spar caps. The load from the fittings is transferred to the through bolts, which is in turn transferred to the wood. The load transfer mechanism is that the wood will compress. If you have an incorrect bolt hole that is filled with nothing but T88, you will have a portion of wood that is much less resistant to crushing. Your fitting will fail.
