Precision Machinery Suppy here in Huntsville (256-959-3100) has reamers for about $12 each. I'd mic you bolts though, because if you blindly use a 3/16" reamer your holes will probably be too large, since the bolts are typically about .002" smaller than the fractional value, at least the ones I get from Wicks are. You might buy a .1860 (BD56-1860) for $9.75 and a .1865 (BD56-1865) or .1870 (BD5601870) for $9. I don't think I'd bother painting the bolts. They're already plated and shouldn't be exposed to moisture anyway. I epoxied some of my bolts in place and they were pretty easy to "break" lose with a wrench by twisting. The holes were to the proper size but were soaked in epoxy before the bolt was inserted. I made mine fit pretty tight through the wood and through the holes and I'm happy with the way it worked out. I want to use one gauge to show the individual quantities in three separate tanks with capacitance senders installed. I plan to do this with 2 switches, one on-on switch to select between the header tank and the wing tanks, and one on*-off-on* (*=momentary) to select between the left and right wing tanks. This makes the gauge read empty if I forget to put the on-on switch back to the header tank position, which will remind me to switch it back. I'm using DPDT switches so that I can isolate each sender. Here's my question: Is there any problem putting switches between the capacitance senders and the fuel gauge? Thanks for the help! Walton" wrote: > I wilbe a KR 1 builder and I`ve come up with a > qyestion or two...In puts on these topics would be much welcome > Sam Walton > Sam, You have some of the same questions I started out with. Some things I wish I had known about include: A. Buy a Cessna 152 or 150 to do your training in. You can probably get about as much for it as you paid for it and save a ton of money on rental fees. Where I trained they kept their planes outside on "tie-downs" which cost a lot less than a hanger. Go in with another student pilot, if necessary. B. I don't have first-hand experience flying a KR yet, but, from the comments I've seen about pitch-sensitivity, you will adapt pretty quick to it. C. Get a set of plans for a FRED. They are cheap and it is a great little plane. The FRED is an open-cockpit plane designed to take the wings off, hang them on the side of the plane, replace the tail-wheel with a trailer-hitch and hang the whole thing on your bumper hitch and haul it home to your garage. All in about a half-hour. You can take the wings off a KR, but not easily and you will want help, and you sure won't do it in half an hour. The FRED plans might give you ideas about things you want to do to your KR, or you may decide to build one for low and slow time-building. It also uses the VW, which would give you another reason for looking it over. D. Don't worry about the new wing designs. They are great and a lot of research and planning led to that development. But, the originals are easy to build, work great and are more than adequate for the KR-1. If it ain't broke... E. If you haven't started flying lessons yet, or, if you have just started, take a Community College "Ground School" course. This is MUCH cheaper than most flight-training programs and will help you toward your license as well as answer MANY of your early questions about what you want out of your plane. Besides you'll get to meet a lot of others in your area who are just getting started and who knows what might come of that. Hope all that helps a little, good luck ===== Frank Ross, San Antonio, TX, __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Yep, if you've read the new airfoil data detailing improved performance in every respect but with same stall speed performance, same exact wing construction (and therefore, time to build, except aileron bellcrank now has MORE room than the RAF48 leaves you), increased wing tank volume, and taller/stronger main spar, and you still don't see the point in going with the new airfoil, by all means you should stick with the RAF48. I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it... I got an hour of citrabia time in before flying the Kr2. The Kr2 regular version wasn't anything like those aircraft. I would compare it to driving a truck vs driving a sportscar. I took off ok but as soon as I was in the air my first thought was "how am I ever going to get this thing down". I did but it took me 3 landing attempts - 2 go arounds and that was with a long, wide runway. If at the same time I had to deal with engine or carbureator problems, well thats why first flights for low time pilots are risky. The essence of flying the Kr's is use a light touch. Of course thats exactly the hardest thing to do in a first flight if you are maybe a little nervous and have a death grip on the stick. Once getting used to the KR it's beautiful and you just think about turning and it goes. You will never again have as much fun flying cessna's. As far as the new airfoil, Mark said that the new airfoil has the same stall speed but I thought the data showed that in fact the new airfoil has a higher stall speed. I`ve read were KR`s are pitch sensitive, when my project is complet I will be a very low time pilot, like just getting my liences, is this a aircraft I will be wanting to fly? I`m also reading about the different style or designes of wings availble, how is this selection being made? I also read that removing the wings is something that isn`t recommended. Limited access to bolts and rigging problems. I am interested in this aircraft because hanger rental is not high on my list of things to spend money for. In puts on these topics would be much welcome Sam Walton ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 11:58:17 EST To: krnet@mailinglists.org From: Flymaca711689@cs.com Subject: westach fuel gage Message-ID: <58.6231da1.279c6f29@cs.com> i need wire diagram for my gage it has three wires i do not w ant to wire to mag. p/n395-5s-5 ? ithink thats the number. this is the last system in my aircraft that is in onpsoon as snow gone im airborn. thanks if you can help !!! still looking for aprop 52x46 or 48 mac for ultralight training call me or email me we train in the rans s12 good airplane bb sport aviation 301 274 2874 ------------------------------ End of krnet Digest ***********************************
