Until a recent air show. Turns out a local Airplane company has them on there high wing float plane and has lot's good things to say about them. Yes you will see a gap where air is allowed to flow between bottom to top surfaces. According to them, they found no top end performance difference but able to lower the stall speed enough to make the project worth while. No real numbers to share. The flap was designed at the local University. After approaching them with the idea of borrowing there flap concept they promised to get back to me with some info. I thought I would share with you what I think might be a fowler flap for a KR. The rear spar was moved forward 2". The airfoil is 5048 and the Flap is also 5048. The gap on top should be about .125 not the .375 that I show and the underside blend is a ruff guess at best. The last drawing has the bracket in blue line. Yes this curve would require CNC machining. But I am a Tool maker with CNC friends so let's say for now that we can get the brackets machined. The Flap airfoil I reason should or could be one that has blunter nose, this might help air flow. Can any one tell be if the large jets (that use fowler flap concept) allow air flow between the flaps at cruise? If the flap fit into a socket or mating curve would the air still flow correctly to allow the flap at 30deg and extended rearward 6" to provide the increase lift? I am not sure and would like to here from people in the know. Well here is the site which you can view my auto cad drawings. http://pondhopperkr2.dhs.org/~kr2/kr2drawings.htm Constructive criticism is always appreciated the rest will be deleted on site! For those interested in helping me develop this flap I will get the machining of the brackets done for them too. Sure would be cool to burn the tail feathers off a piper cub at 180 mph and then land at their short field.
