On the KR that we are building now, we have all the premolded parts, canopy, t-deck, and forward deck. I put all these parts on the plane and tried to see if I could fit, and I could not. There simply is not enough head room, especially on the sides. We have cut up the canopy frame to the point that we are just going to throw it away, $165. We have cut the KR canopy bubble in hopes that we can use the parts for a "scratch built" canopy. The t-deck had to be heightened and widened. There may be some value to using it. The cowling is a revmaster and the engine is a Great Plains. We are going to have to make extensive modifications to it to make it fit right. We do have the Deihl pre-molded wing skins which were used as they were and I think they will work out well. I suggest that you look at the KR2-S and plan on building all the parts that sit on top of the longerons. Daniel R. For the past week or so the outside of my eyelids have been very sore, felt raw and as if the skin were thin. I wake up with additional sleep in my eyes and the feeling stays with me all day and through the night. It has been getting progressively worse. I have only foamed and glassed the H.S. and V.S. plus rudder and elevator so have not been in contact too much with foam and glass. And this work was spread over several months. I wear gloves always and keep the garage well vacuumed and ventilated. Any thoughts? After I see the doctor, if it is related I'll post it here. Number two: still at it. Glassed the V.S. trailing edged today and one side of rudder. Thanks for reading. Tim __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? I was getting small bumps on my body and the doctor said they would go away. They didn't. Then my lids started to bother me and the doctor gave me a prescription for some salve to put on eye lids. My wife had her eye doctor look at me and he said I should get a complete physical the next day. Two days later my blood test showed I had leukemia. My systems were similar to what I got from using epoxy without protection. Phil ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! You need to be seen by your doctor. Most true allergies to your project will present as redness, little bumps, hives, or wheezing while using the epoxy or shortly afterwards. They should go away when you spend time away from the inciting material. That low, slightly nauseous feeling when you pick up a sanding block for the 16th day in a row is not an allergy . . . In your shop, the most common thing that will cause people to have an allergic reaction is the epoxy. Other things are solvents, and paints. Because you have an allergy to one type of epoxy does not mean that you are allergic to all epoxies. Check out other brands, but do so carefully, as most reactions will get worse each time you are exposed to the offending agent. The one thing to be very careful of is wheezing. Bronchospasm (read wheezing) due to allergy is the reason for most cases of asthma. In its typical form, people can feel "chest tightness" or slightly short of breath. The real danger comes in the repeated exposure where all of a sudden instead of the wheezing that you have gotten to know and love, you go into a full blown anaphylactic reaction. This is where the airway swells so much that you can't breath - you've heard of the people with this due to bee stings or nuts. It comes from repeated exposure to a substance which causes your own immune system to overreact. Finally, it goes out of control, and, well, badness happens. Keep in mind that people can develop allergies at any time in their lives - it doesn't just happen to kids. What's more, is that you can develop allergies to anything - this is a good time of year for some types of pollen, dust, fungi, etc., etc. Take note of anything that has recently changed at home - different laundry detergent can leave you with bad symptoms in the morning after you have been mashing your face into a clean fresh pillow all night, the wife's new pot-pourri (I have no idea how to spell that, and I don't really care) that you are breathing all night could be more offending then you originally thought. Allergy is a long way from my particular brand of medicine, but I remember enough to know that they are nothing to mess around with. As I said before, you need to sit down and explain all of this to your doctor and make sure that everything checks out. Your bod is trying to tell you something and it's usually wise to listen. One other thing came to mind as I was thinking about the joys of sanding foam - eye protection is not a bad idea. A couple of tiny chunks of foam in the eye, or even corneal abrasions from previous chunks, could also give you symptoms like you describe. Again, your doctor can help. I have remounted my radiator four times. I think I now understand radiator problems and could do a much better job. Presently it would require major rework to correctly mount a radiator in my airplane (A future project). The justification for my airplane is to bore holes in the sky and it does a fine job of that. It is not a showpiece but a lot of fun. Due to the many changes, etc. it does not look very good cosmetically now. I may show up at the fly in for a few hours on Saturday and return that afternoon. I could talk for a long time on the good and bad of an EA81, basically if it is done right you will be satisfied. I would go with a setup that is near the same as any local support I could get. If it's epoxy reaction, you might get away with a changed type. Aerolite used to be a popular glue (in the 60's) and Hugh Cunningham's DOG got Chirrosis of the liver from being in the shop.
