He probably applied a bit too much brake as the wheel pants had scrapes and the prop was almost completely "sanded" to the hub and the fiberglass spinner had rubbed on only one side, but for some reason did not touch the cowling. I'd guess he was not going too fast. I have no tail dragger experience so I'm only guessing. The pilot has agreed to replace the prop that he said was the "wrong one, anyway." Strange, the plane has 106 hours with the wrong prop. BUT my thoughts went to the engine and any problems it may have do to stresses caused by the strike. It is a 2100 VW. What should the concerns be on this engine's reliability? I am not a mechanic -- only wannabe. I'd think maybe he should be responsible for an engine overhaul too. Comments?? (I'm on the KRnet digest version.) Oh yes, the throttle lever was pulled out some 3 - 4 inches past the cable attachment and would not retract. Would Sherlock say that the guy tried to give it gas as he started to nose over? Yes, Mark, it is Bobbie's Plane. It got airborne and came down hard on KR1 gear legs that were installed by the previous owner. The legs snapped and thus no prop. I took the engine apart and had the crank shaft magna fluxed. No damage. I was there and knew the extent of that strike. Upon subsequent strikes, I determined that there was also probably no damage and moved on. I never had an incident that could be attributed to this event. However, in that you have no way of knowing exactly what happened, I would certainly advise you to tear down the engine and check out everything including having the crank shaft checked for stress. By the way, Little Beast got a complete engine upgrade and rebuild at a later date and suffered no more prop strikes while I had her. Daniel R. You might want to consider using a curing booth to maintain sufficient temperature for curing; also useful for post-curing later on. Mark Langford has a picture of Troy Petteway's curing booth; I tried to find the pic but couldn't...Mark could tell you the URL for it. Also you can make a much smaller booth out of 2x2 frame and Celotex (R), regular foil-covered house sheathing. Plan ahead and you can make it expandable as needed. I'd think you could use a number of high-wattage lamps to provide sufficient heat. Chuck __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? You might be thinking of his epoxy heating cabinet with the infrared bulbs in it. I post cure mine out in the sun during the summer. I laid up a carbon fiber cowling earlier this summer and took it out in the sun, and an hour later it looked well-done to me. Temperature does make a huge difference!
