I answered affirmative that I would be there if the ban lifted but Wednesday brought MotherNature'sRevenge, poison ivy from last weekends backyard adventure. A hundred years ago at camp, before advent of modern medicine, they daubed you with white chalk, taped a pair of gloves on so you couldn't scratch and by the time you got home all was well. Today we are lucky. You get a $60 prescription with a built-in alergic reaction bonus for some of us lucky ones. Now you can even get grounded from driving or even riding a bike. I suspect maybe it is my age, not the age I live in, that is the problem. Enough. To those on their way, we hope your arrival will be safe; To those still to leave, don' go faster than your guardian angel can fly; To those of us not leaving at all, we still have a multitude of backyard jobs we can do this weekend. Lets lift a glass to leisure and accomplishment. Hug the kids. Hug the wife. Hug someone else's wife. Cheers! (Just as soon as I finish this "no alcohol chaser allowed" prescription!) Maury Hunter 515 244 7980 fax 244 7952 Des Moines, IA PS: Barb and I were going to take 4 extra days to check out some Arkansas "senior living communities" or probably more accuratelly, since we don't golf, would be those "fish-camps" on the shallow end of the lake. Hell, I don't fish either. Maybe a shack in that grove of trees. You know, that 50' obstacle at the end of the strip! We understand the summers are unbearably hot if you get out of the shade, unbelieveably sweaty if you do any work but when it snows you just wait inside for a couple hours and watch it melt.........unless that last summer storm took the roof off. But it cain't be all bad. My pappy was raised there and that says a hell of a lot of good things about the place......mh --part1_92.1a76e58e.28dc09c2_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 22:07:49 -0700 To: "cartera" , "KR-Net" From: "C.B.Midkiff" Subject: Re: KR> Gathering Message-ID: <015b01c1425b$5d012da0$35623d3f@resch24> Adrian, Well my wife and I made it this evening from Seattle. My opinion is that those "loopholes" may be under consideration for closing. That way, even if VFR flight is allowed, a squawk code would still show where aircraft are and what their track is. But to paraphrase the gun owners' bumper sticker, "when non-transponder VFR operations are outlawed, only outlaws will be non-transponder". I think many of the stiffer regs being considered will only hamstring the good guys, because the bad guys are under no obligation to follow the regs, are they? First thing the hijackers did was click off the xpdr, eh? Boy, I'd hate to see sport and rec planes have to have xpdrs. It's bad enough with ELTs (single-place don't require them), but to absolutely have to have a xpdr and a COM... oh, well.
