One turn rich in the winter, One turn lean in the spring. I and my partner Ernest (Butch) Koppe built a KR-1 and a KR-2. We used the Posa Carb with a VW engine on both. The original KR-1 and KR-2 designed and built by the late Ken Rand used the same system and none of the aircraft fitted with this equipment ever had a problem. It may be that when the Posa has had a little time and wear, it does not work as well as when it is new. We never kept our two aircraft long enough to find out but Ken Rand did and as far as I know that carburetor worked well up to the time of his death. That was with the use of the RAF 48 airfoil. Since I am using the new AS5048/46 airfoils and the rear spar moved up. The torque tube will have to be run through the shear web in a cavity of the aft spar. That necessitated making the bent pushrod to get it back into alignment with the aileron bellcranks. I was going to use a 1" aluminum tube for the strait pushrod, now that it must be bent to work correctly, I will be making it from 4130 with gussets. The Edelbrock Quicksilver carb does have a tapered needle. They also make a -1 (dash one) series that is richer just off idle to get more fuel into the air intake as the venturi opens. This is basically what the posa needed done to it to work correctly. Personally, I wouldn't put my life on the line with a junkyard carburetor of unknown condition or function. That is why I purchased a new Quicksilver and will be getting the -1 needles to tune it, with the help of the mixture meter. I got my carb new for $165 including shipping, a small price to pay for piece of mind. Eduardo, I have two drawings finished and will send them to you when I return home from Baltimore. I do have a slot ( 6X3/4" )cut into the front of the cowl but need to get more air so I'm creating a scoop on the bottom of the slot to pick up any flow that may have passed over but didn't get drawn in. I will also lokk at other places where I might be losing air. Any advise?? Thanks. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! The oil cooler is supplied with air from the two inlets on either side of the spinner along with the cylinders from the same source. I made and installed the baffles designed for the Q2 also. I have never had a problem with cooling as promised by Revmaster if I used this set-up. I did make a little deflector on the left intake that splits the flow and directs half of it down toward the oil cooler. I too had a mouth in front of the oil cooler which I soon realized was an unnecessary drag producer and eliminated it. I also eliminated the bulge at the bottom of the cowl for air exit and made a couple of rails at the fuselage bottom corners with a trough in between about 1" deep for air exit. Then I reduced the inlet areas as well. I gained about 5 mph with these modifications. Good luck with your efforts. -----Original Message----- From: Kenneth L Wiltrout To: krnet@mailinglists.org Date: Sunday, December 23, 2001 12:01 PM Subject: KR> Cowling >Well since I need something to do I decided to increase the air flow to >my oil cooler, since in a climb my oil temps reach 220 prior to hitting >3000'.
