I should say a very original one. I have got handbrakes instead of toe brakes. These brakes are straight out of a powerful motorcycle, and they work well, even if the setup takes some getting accustomed to. It is a very easy installation, so some might consider replicating it. The layout is as follows: The two motorcycle brake handles are mounted vertically, fore of the main spar, and aligned with the sick (between your legs, but fore of the stick). The handles and the brakes cylinders are mounted together on an aluminum bracket, in such a way that if you pull the handle, it pushes the brake cylinder rod/piston down. One handle is shorter than the other, so you can grab both with one hand. When you brake, you keep one hand on the stick, and the other on the handles. The differential braking is obtained by different finger pressures on the handles. The only reproach I could make was that it was a bit wobbly. I perfected the design yesterday, by making a better nuts-and-bolts job, to make a cleaner rotation axis. Surprise, surprise! Not only did I suppress the wobble, it also reduced the handles travel, the amount of pressure required to brake, and even the pistons offset! So, I now have a very clean and very efficient brakes system. I would probably not have built the plane that way, but I must admit it is an easy way. Incidentally, does anybody know what I should use to clean the parts of the brakes system that are corroding? (That aircraft has lived on the coast for 8 years, and the brakes seem to have suffered from corrosion much more than the rest). Well, it's now ready to be mounted. The setup consists of one "tacho" type cable, with the knob and a friction spring on the one end, and a round tip at the other end. The tip goes into the carb mixture setting screw (bottom of the carburettor). The tip and the screw are fitted together with a hole and a spring pin (I doubt if spring pins are accepted in aviation, but it's better than a split pin for my purpose). The cable is held in place by an aluminum bracket placed under the carb. The bracket is roughly U-shaped. It holds on the 4 carburettor body screws, and has a U-shaped hole in the middle to secure the cable end screws.
