I'd say the 3/32 is way too big, so go to 1/16 electrode with matching collet and set the machine for 60 amps, and you'll still never have to "floor it". Use .035 or .045" ER70S filler rod which you can get at http://www.hi-techwelding.com/ , and tell them you're an EAA member for a 25% discount. Tell them what you're welding and they'll send you exactly what you need. You can also get TIG torch parts at http://www.welding-direct.com/tigtorches.html if you need smaller collets, but Hi-tech Welding probably has them too. I always love to just hang around at the airport and see what is going on, I noticed a small tail dragger setting at the fuel farm with two legs sticking out of it. so i walked over and this guy was under the panel working on it, we struck up a conversation and it was an RV-6 with an O-320 in it. What i am wondering is this, how come RV's have such a good rep and KR's seem to be kinda left out in the homebuilt neighborhood? Heck they looks an awful lot like the same plane to me, the performance specs are close, the RV is just a lil bit bigger and it has rivets, whats the deal? Why do kr builders get labeled as black sheep? I know one thing, i cant wait to get mine flying and get proficiant at flying it, cause i will definately meet the one i saw today in the wild blue and i plan on being on his 6 with a smile on my face ! Consider Grove gear. It will give you more prop clearance for that 60" prop you're looking for, is easily added without tearing into the wings, is about the same price, and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Marty Roberte started out with a Sterba 56 X 74 when he first got his O-200. He now has a Margie Warneke 60 X74 AirClaw. He really likes it and claims 190 mph with it. I now have his Sterba and only got 160 mph with it. I am now running a Warp Drive 3 blade ground adjustable and get 165 mph. I am not particularly fond of the Warp Drive. Jean N4DD Broken Arrow, OK ----- Original Message ----- From: larry flesner Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 8:22 AM To: krnet@mailinglists.org Subject: KR> Prop size for 2700 Corvair motor Dave, I'm running (going to run) a 60X68 Sterba on my 0-200 (100hp) as recommended by Ed Sterba. That is very close to what Marty Roberts was running on his 0-200 and he thought mine might be a bit low in pitch. That would be o.k. with me as my KR will be heavy and that will let the engine turn up a few more h.p. and should help my take off and climb performance. IMHO,go for the largest diameter you can, considering prop speed and ground clearance, and adjust the pitch accordingly. Marty has run several props on his 0-200 over the years but he's not on the net. Maybe Jean Veron could help out here or if Leo from Brazil is still on the net, he was going to be running a 60X66 on his 0-200 powered KR. How is that working out, Leo? These numbers should work out close if you can get 110h.p. out of the Corvair. I'm guessing your RPM will be within 10 % of the 0-200. I'm only going by what I've seen in the past and I'm sure there is probably something "scientific" about how props work if someone wants to go into all that stuff. :) Larry Flesner --------------------------------------------------------------------- To post to the list, email: krnet@mailinglists.org , NOT "reply all" To UNsubscribe, e-mail: krnet-unsubscribe@mailinglists.org For additional commands, e-mail: krnet-help@mailinglists.org See the KRNet archives at http://www.escribe.com/aviation/krnet/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Mar 2002 11:51:41 EST To: KRNet@mailinglists.org From: Mauryhuntr@aol.com Subject: Jeff Yorks's new beauty Message-ID: --part1_c3.201746fa.29d0af9d_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Picky picky. comment from the snowbelt.
