The AS5048/15 should work just fine on the KR2, as demonstrated by Troy Petteway's KR2. In fact, my wings are just about the same length as KR2 wings, since I left off the hoaky foam spars. The two wings aren't all that different in terms of wing area, it's the basic planform shape that's different, with the KR2S having a higher aspect ratio (longer, skinnier) because of the steeper forward sweep of the aft spar. I believe Troy Petteway's wing is KR2 planform, and I'm pretty sure Anthony Underwood's plane is going to be that way also. I guess I should know, since I provided them both the drawings for their aifoil templates. >Second, are the > WAFs the same for both planes? Bascially they are exactly the same parts, except that ALL of the aft spar WAFs are bent 3 degrees, rather than only half of them. This gives the KR2S's aft spar a 6 degree sweep forward, rather than only 3 degrees like the KR2. They both cost the same, but I wouldn't swear that Dr. Dean has enough of the bent ones to make a set of KR2 WAFs. You'll have to ask him that question. >Also, the TET website says to get the WAFs > when an order is announced on KRNet. Since I'm new to KRNet, can anyone > tell me does this happen often? Or, has it happened recently? We basically don't bother KRnetters with our capitalistic sales efforts, even though a lot of what we "make" goes right back into stuff that benefits the KR cause. And we figure if you want them, you'll find them on our website. Dr. Dean made up a bunch of sets a year or two ago and lamented that he'd never do it again because of the phenomenal hassle. He may have had a change of heart since then, but I'm pretty sure that he doesn't even have the TIME to mess with it right now. Last time I checked, he had a few sets left., but out of the blue I've had two different folks ask me about them in the last two days, so you better get your check in the mail soon. These may be the last for a while. For you newbies, more info on them is at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/tet/ . The typical Corvair will be closer to 250 pounds The total firewall forward package, including prop, cowling, mount, and all the rest will weigh in at just over 250 pounds. I don't think that I did anything unusual to the tail, other than the tail wheel that I made. It is also sized so that I should never have an aft CG concern. I placed an order back in December and it was handled so badly that I felt compelled to write Jim Irwin. Previous order problems combined with this last order was the straw that broke the camel's back. I voiced my dissatisfaction with AS&S. There are some good and conscientious people working for them, but the few bad apples leave a terrible taste in your mouth. Enough to drive some to purchase from other suppliers. Below is the email I sent and the response received from Jim Irwin. I have started using them again and hope they have cleaned up their act. Dave Mullins Nashua, New Hampshire >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jim, The problems encountered with my latest order from Aircraft Spruce, has prompted me to write to you and voice my dissatisfaction with your company. In all the dealings I have had over the past 3.5 years only one, or possibly, two orders have been without some kind of problem. The latest order was prepaid for over $600. I sent it to Aircraft Spruce East in an overnight letter. It was signed for on Friday, December 1st at 2:30 pm. Expecting that the order would be shipped on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Tuesday night I checked my account on your website, no shipment. I called customer service because I was expecting to get the order by that Friday here in New Hampshire. They put me in contact with the person who actually signed for my overnight letter. That person said they just opened the letter that day. I was told that they did not know what to do with it and it was sent to Spruce west and back. It seems logical that if someone sends an overnight letter that it would be something important, and should be opened immediately. No such luck! Talking to that person, I stated that I needed the 250 clecos by this Friday so I could get some work done on my project. They were out of stock at the east warehouse, but were available at the west warehouse. So we decided to ship them by 2 day air. $28+ in shipping charges. It cost me half that to ship a 3 x 4 foot sheet of stainless! A week Friday, and the rest of the order still has not shipped. I called again and was told that my prepaid order is now $36 short and they wanted me to sent a check before they would ship my order. I told them that I was putting together another order for approximately $1000 and would add it to that order. My order was finally pulled and shipped last night. Two and a half weeks after receiving my prepaid order. Well with the backordered items, my invoice total was below your $500 prepaid shipping policy, Now they charged me shipping on a $600 prepaid order. This is not the first time this has happened, and makes your prepaid shipping policy a joke! There is also this $5 misc. charge that has shown up on a few orders. Could you enlighten me on what that is for? Did they include a free catalog and then charge me for it? I don't know? The other orders that I have had problems with are related to the prepaid shipping policy too. Aircraft spruce has separated orders on me and since each subsequent invoice is below the $500 I am charged shipping on both shipments. This has happened two or three times to me. I have ordered tubing below UPS's oversize limits, afterwards, I find out I was charged shipping for the whole order because UPS changed their length limits. This happened to me twice even after I had the tube cut under the length limits for the second order. I agree that I should have to pay shipping on the oversize box, but, the rest of the order was over the $500 threshold and should still be eligible for prepaid shipping. Another order I called in and ordered COD so that I got the parts in the needed time frame. There was a Westach rotary switch back ordered. My original COD was not charged for this item. When the switch was finally sent I had a second COD charge added along with the shipping. My very first order took almost a year to settle for an $8 shortage. I called 6 times telling them to add it on my next order, to charge my credit card, nothing happened other than I kept getting an invoice for this $8. Someone over there has really dropped the ball on this one. It was finally taken care of when I called and complained that it was not the amount but the principle that no one on that end did what was authorized. I had 4 other orders in that same time frame. These are the problems that I have witnessed personally. In talking to other builders, they kept asking me if I was having problem with ACS. I told them I have had some problems, but was still using them. I believe that your customer service people genuinely want to help the customer. They are extremely courteous and pleasant on the phone. Dey Williams and Cathy from CS were as helpful as they could be. Sandy Nelms from Spruce East really wants the customer to be happy. Your accounting department has much improvement to do. and your order takers need to inform the customers when an item is considered oversize. After giving your company plenty of chances, I have finally learned my lesson. My next order for all my finishing supplies, that is already typed into my computer, will now go to another supplier. My next project on the drawing board has a parts list with all ACS part numbers attached, that will have to be changed now. My website has over 8,500 hits through the front door since March 5th of this year, most would be other builders. The link from my website to your website will be disabled and directed to a page informing other builders of what to expect in dealing with Aircraft Spruce. I can no longer recommend dealing with ACS until they have corrected the problems that I and others have had. Thank you for your time. I understand that our Customer Service manager, Carolyn Leon, has been discussing the issues in your email with you and that she is crediting the freight on the order and crediting the balance due on the order, but if any problem remains outstanding please contact Carolyn Leon and she will fix it immediately. We appreciate all of the business you have given us over the years and I assure you that our goal on every order we receive is to ship it quickly, accurately and economically. The recent order should have been handled much faster and I apologize for that delay and the extra shipping charges that were created. We do honor UPS prepaid policy as outlined in our catalog, and any freight that was charged in error Carolyn will be crediting. I do hope that following our corrections of the problems on the recent order that you will reconsider your decision regarding using Aircraft Spruce as your source for finishing supplies and for your next project. I also hope that you found our response satisfactory and that you will continue to recommend our company as a supplier through your website and through your discussions with other builders. We do value you as a customer and will work hard to achieve the goals set forth in our mission statement. Thanks for bringing this matter to my attention ( and thus Carolyn¹s as well) , and thanks for your patience as we resolved this issues. How do I know this? I have not called back for 3 years and never will again. From TET, I purchased WAF's, Landing Gear brackets, New Wing templates, Corvair Prop hub. The quality of product and service from Mark and Dr. Dean is such that I only wish they made more parts. Also... their continued contribution and assistance to all KR builders and their input towards improving KR building techniques is always there. Mark has answered 1000's of KR building email questions in the 4 years I've been with this group and having access to his Web site is more important than having that shoddy unsupported 3 ring binder from RR. TET is also basically non profit. I would argue to say that with R & D and material and production and support costs they are out of pocket and do what they do because there is a need and for fun. They also do not promote their small business much. It's just there for members of this group. So consider this email as a satisfied customer referral. Yes... I hear she's a very nice lady and I'd like to meet her some day, but for now I have an airplane to build. Deep relaxing breath here......... I'm ordering 2 piece gundrilled/airfoil shaped landing gear from Hammerhead this week and hope to have the bird on wheels next month. Then the wife said "Does that mean I get the garage back?" NOT :) Take care and happy building guys. I guess I should not take for granted that everyone's up on all the KR terms and some history. How soon I forget. Only 4+ years ago I sat there at my PC before I bought my KR-2S plans thinking "What the hell are WAF's". (Wing Attachment Fittings) 32 steel brackets that hold the inner wing stubs spars and outer wings spars together. Mounting/drilling these little suckers is one of the few tasks a KR builder cringes at. However it was not as bad as I thought it would be now that it's done. (TET) Trailing Edge Technologies - Mark Langford and Dr. Dean Collette (also a KR builder) started up a small fun company a little over 3 years ago to fill a void for quality/reasonable/better parts for KRs. Some of the parts originated from parts they have made for themselves but then offered to have batches made to help out other builders. The new airfoil templates... Mark is an AutoCAD wiz and... Well... Enough said because it's not Friday. You see Friday is the only day of the week we (KRNet members) willingly accept and put up with commercial advertising for products and companies. Here is a link to the TET Web page. http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/tet/ At this modest Web page you will find they sell a few parts and wing templates, etc. Dean Collette, Marks his business partner and friend was/is just like Mark and other helpful builders and 3 and 4 years ago he was constantly helping out other builders by answering questions. He also facinated many of us with his laminated ribs and rounded fusalage. However Dean... (Dr Dean) we called him "is" really a doctor and his doctor job and other things has taken him away from KR building for 2 years now. He will be back (I hope). This happens to lots of KR builders. Some come back (Like me. I've been gone 2 years) and some do not and subsequently sell their projects. Some........... turn to the dark side and build RV's like Dana. Some are really missed like Mike Mimms and countless others. Wicks is an excellent supplier of tons of aircraft building supplies... Just go here... http://www.wicksaircraft.com/ I apologize to this builder and others new on the KRNet for talking in acronyms. I also appoligize if any of my names or statements here are not totally correct but what the hell this is experimental isn't it? Take Care and happy building. need to get. I assume I will not need foam on the first order, but I suspect I will need epoxy or some other glue. How much and of what kind should I order to get me through building the boat? From the best I can tell from reading the post and reading everyone's construction logs, I gather that T-88 is the best glue to use, but how much do I need to order. What other things am I going to find I need as I start the building process. (I already know I'll need more clamps).
