As a suggestion if your going to run it up to full throttle before you know take all precautions and tie the tail down and you have removed one more stress level. Don't spend a lot of time taxing, just make sure you have control and how she responds and don't wear you wheel bearings out, get it in the air. Now, for observing view, engine off, take it out somewhere where you can see most of the horizon and leave it in the 3 point position and then put you tail up on a box or whatever in level flight position and sit in the cockpit, an hour or two until you get the picture of what it looks like from your position, because this is what it will be like when your out on that first flight. Good Luck and hope I have helped some. Take your time and try to relax!!! Happy Flying! I got the plane out of the hanger and found that my points were bad. The engine is a VW Type IV 2400cc. I replaced them Saturday morning and it started fine, but I got a fouled plug in #4 (I had that happen before and a new plug fixed it). After the first running when I noticed the backfiring, I touched all of the plugs and found that they were all hot. I pulled them and found that #4 was fouled. All of the plugs are new as of about 2hrs of running time on them. I checked all the cables and they seem fine. I cleaned the plug and tried again and the plug fouled again. I checked the distributor cap and found that the connector for #4 looked a little dirty, so I filed it clean. I ran/cleaned the plug a few more times, but it kept fouling again. So, I figure that the plug could be bad, but why would a new plug go bad that fast? If it was a fluke then OK, but is there anything else that might be causing #4 to go bad? I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, an expert in these things, so any suggestions would be appreciated. P.S. I will be trying a new plug today. Also, the #4 cylinder could be getting oil past the rings and cause it to foul plugs, or it could be from oil left in the cylinder if it has recently been overhauled or had the cylinder lubricated with oil for some reason. Does the engine smoke when running? If it does, notice if it comes from the side with the fouled plug or the other side. If it smokes from the side with the plug fouling problem, it's getting oil into the cylinder from somewhere. I would try a new plug and run it for a while and see if it fouls before getting too worried. Sometimes after a plug is fouled it never will run without fouling again no matter how many times you clean it. Just suggestions, Rick Wilson. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
