I promised Jeanette at Oshkosh that I would have it finished for the Gathering in Red Oak and I've made it. It's one hour of KRs, KRs, and more KRs. Lots of fun, flying and did I say KRs? Honestly, if you need a motivational kick in the pants, the video will do it for you. Just ask anybody who's gotten one from previous years. Once again, if you had your KR at the 1999 - 2000 Gatherings in Kentucky, you get a free video. If you will be at Red Oak (I hope you are) just give me a tap on the shoulder and you get your free video. If you had your plane at Barkley and you aren't going to be at Red Oak, please email me directly (address is below) and give me your N number and current mailing address. For all you other KR builders and wannabees, the video will be available at the Gathering or I will be able to start shipping them after I get back from Red Oak. I can't take credit cards, check or money orders only. ($25 includes postage) Sorry, all you builders outside N. America, I don't have PAL or SECAM versions. I've also got '97, '98 Gathering videos and the KR Builder video. I'll have a few of them with me at Red Oak too. I usually go to Oshkosh, Sun 'n Fun and the Gathering every year. I would skip Oshkosh or Sun 'n Fun if I had to, but not the Gathering. Whatever you have to do, get to the Gathering. You will never regret it. And if you're there, it will be all the better for the rest of us too. It's just too good to miss. See you there. I'm also looking for Charles Cornelius. If your on the KRNet, email me directly or see me at Red Oak. Sorry if this sounded like a commercial, but I've had a lot of guys asking about the video. I always appreciate the interest and encouragement I get from my KR friends. As for the gathering, you need to go. I have friends all around the country now as a result of the gatherings. I would feel very comfortable traveling around and staying with KRers, north and south, east and west. You will have a wonderful time. I am unable to attend this year. I am an asst. high school football coach and my oldest son plays college ball (defending national champs, yes I got a ring too!!). I am doing the high school thing on the sidelines on Friday night and the college thing from the stands on Sat., so my weekends are full. It they were not, I would be there (RV shirt and all:-) Have a great time gang, wish I was going. Here is the link to my page on the mount and gear: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n886mj/vwmount.html I also had the problem of matching up the mount with the gear. If I recall correctly, I had to grind off some of the mount pad (the washer style foot where it meets the engine mount) in the nose gear bracket to allow the two to mate up. It can be done relatively easily. Sorry I do not have better photos of this and I have now converted the Diehl gear to mate up with my Corvair engine mount. This is just some of the little stuff that has to get done sooner or later. As soon as I finish up these fairings, including the tailwheel fairing and gear leg fairings, I'll paint the bottom of the plane, flip it over, install the engine (for the last time), and start working on similar details on top. Fortunately, I did my finish sanding as I built each piece, so rather than a huge monumental sanding task ahead, I just have a few little areas to touch up. The one thing that's still rough is the carbon fiber wing tips, which won't take but 10 hours or so to get under control. After that there are the little details in the cockpit, and painting time. I'm headed out toward Red Oak in a minute, stopping in southern Illinois to spend the night at Larry Flesner's house, and hopefully (weather permitting) bumming a ride in his Tripacer Thursday morning on to Red Oak. If we get to fly it, I'd love to take more air-to-air photos of the folks that I missed last time, like Jim Faughn's KR2, etc. But this time we only plan one photo mission, since we spent an awful lot of time flying last time, rather than soaking in the KR ambience...
