Howard lived in Mesa and worked at Falcon Field. He was a member of EAA Chapter 128 (I think that was the right number) which met at the Glendale Airport. When I left in 1999, Chapter 128 was struggling to stay alive (literally, in most cases) and Howard was one of the most active members, although he had to drive an hour from Mesa to Glendale to get to meetings. I don't know how to get hold of Howard, but he is your best KR resource in that area, as far as I know. I'd look around Falcon Field, someone there is bound to know him. Besides, they've got a good restaurant there and you want to spend a day (before it gets too hot, as it is not air-conditioned) at the Fighter Museum and the Confederate Air Force, or whatever they're calling it these politically correct days. Also, he was very active at the Copperstate Fly-Ins, so you can probably track him down there next October. Good luck. There's lots of help in the program, as well as to links online assistance. It has several levels of difficulty from easy to hardcore so it let's you work at your skill. I really, really hope to post my progress (at last!) in the next week or two. I'm finally home (Colorado) and have a goal to finish the plane soon. Spent all week engineering the aileron for the left wing. I bought the Rand wing skins a few years ago, and had no instructions so I've used the basics from the builder's manual and worked from there to ensure that the construction is secure and safe. Voila you're done--you now have it saved as an .htm file. Just remember what directory you saved it in so you can find it when you want to e-mail it to the online publication. Adding Pictures: For adding pictures to your articles while in Word or Works, click on "Insert" "Picture" "From File," then steer it to the directory and file name where you have the picture to be inserted. You should not insert bitmap (.bmp) files into your articles. Bitmap files are usually several megabytes in size, while the same quality picture stored in .jpg format will likely be just a few kilobytes. If you try to e-mail a file with .bmp files in it, not only is it considered inconsiderate, but it may exceed your or the receiver's e-mail capacity and not go through. If You Have a .bmp Picture You Want to Convert to .jpg: Go to the directory where you've stored the .bmp file you want to convert to .jpg. Double click the .bmp file name to open it up in you computer's default picture viewer. When the picture opens up, click on your Edit Picture or Picture Editor feature. The editor will open up and you can then just "Save as" a .jpg file from your dropdown menu. Close the file and edit your Word or Works article inserting pictures with .jpg extensions. IMPORTANT: Once you have created your .htm article containing .jpg images, you have created an .htm file AND a folder with the same name as your .htm file. The folder contains your pictures and any fancy features you added to your article. The contents of the folder have to be e-mailed to the online publication or your pictures will not appear. Note for the Online Editor: As easy as the above instructions are, it may be just as easy to receive articles in MS Word or Works format, then convert them to .htm using Word yourself. This would eliminate confusion and having to train all submitters, not to mention problems with e-mail transmittals of files and folder contents. Submitters should still try to send .jpg files instead of .bmp files. Last Hint--Fine Tuning of Pictures: You can also edit pictures using MS PowerPoint if you have it. PowerPoint will let you insert pictures, resize them, move them around the presentation, add all kinds of happy junk to your pics, then "Save as" a .jpg file. The clearest pics can be obtained by inserting your pic into the PowerPoint presentation, "Edit" "Copy" or "Cut" then "Paste Special" "Picture." For whatever reason cutting and pasting the picture back into your presentation adds detail and makes the picture quality even better than your original scans. I use it to show extreme detail such as a dust fleck on a coin or a perfectly focused photo. --Don Blankenship ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Langford" Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 10:54:43 -0600 To: "krnet" Subject: KR> KROnline January issue "goes to press" > KRNetHeads, > > I finally managed to drag myself to the computer and tack some articles > together for the first issue of the reincarnation of KROnline.
