If you're very good friends with your local Pizza Hut, you might discuss it with the owner about coming in early or late and forming it there. Due to possible health department regulations and paranoia on the owner's part of being sued, you probably won't get to use their oven, but it's still worth talking with them about it. wstarrs wrote: > Jim if what you are trying to mold will fit in the kitchen oven, there is no > need to build any thing. You might be able to use the low volume ovens found in many mom and pop pizza places. These ovens have a door and items can be slipped in and out of them and cam be as deep as 20 inches. But the national pizza chains use a high volume conveyor style oven, in which the pizza traveles on a moving metal grid through the oven. Our 2 ovens which were rebuilt units cost over $15,000. The pizzas take a 5 minute 37 second trip through the oven at 523 degress. Just try asking a Pizza Hut manager to use the stores oven to soften acrylic sheets in, He needs a good laugh. Remember, what you are applying is a water based product so make sure you do not use any chemical cleaning material. While some may work, I had some interesting interactions while doing different test panels. I would recommend a soap wash then a rinse with clean water. You can dry the surface with a cottom cloth but be careful even to keep your hands off the cleaned product. With that said, I had to really try to leave skin surface oils on the surface before bubbling would occur. A soap solution followed by clean water rinse and an application of Smooth Prime is the ticket. You will enjoy this stuff. A short story on building my KR2S. Moral unknown. In order to start building this airplane I had to convince the controlling authorities that the project cost would be under $10,000 Can. Well if I can get the airframe and engine done for that I can sweet talk her into a few thou for instruments and radios. Actually I've been able to pick up most of the flight instruments already by scrounging at fly ins, e-bay and the KR net. I got wheels, brakes, axles, tires and tubes for $150 us. That was my best buy. Even if they are a bit big they will fit my 150. I bought a subaru engine for $200 Can. and had it rebuilt for about $2,000can. I learned of a chap making Dave Johnson R drives from plans. I bought the plans the machined parts, aluminum plate and bearings for $1000 Can. Great buy! Dave doesn't sell the plans anymore because people have been making several units from one set of plans. This group made about 12. Well I've spent the last year building the R drive in my shop, which consists of a six inch drill press and an old 9" table saw . To be fair I sent Dave $ 150 and told him the plans would not leave here. Well it has taken me a year to build, I had to spend $125 for bolts, and another $ 125 for the belt. Dave has been great. Lots of free advice and he machined me a prop hub and retainer plate at no cost. Now I have a $2500 R-drive that cost me only $1500 and a years work. Now you tell me is building on the cheap worth it? Its been fun, exasperating at times and I'll probably die of old age or lose my licence before I get this project done. Ps I'm still under $ 10,000. If you are in the US or Canada, it is easy to get most of the necessary materials. If you live in another area, you will want to find out where builders in your area get their materials at more reasonable prices. Everything can be ordered from Rand Robinson in California, or from Wicks or Aircraft Spruce and Specialties, in the US. Outside the US the prices become much higher. That is why it is best to begin by finding someone in your area who has done this and knows where to get the right materials. Good luck. Are you concerned about the camber because it is uneven or because of the amount? What do you think the camber should be? << Dan, As little as I know about Bridgeports, I still think I could machine these shims in 20 minutes, so I'm hoping a REAL machinist could do it in 10. Surely that can't cost me more than $25. I just noticed that Wicks now sells some (page 163 of 2002 catalog) for $17 each, but I'd need at least four to get close, 8 to do better. But machining them to exactly my specs will nail them to vertical and straight ahead, for minimum weight, although that's probably unnecessary overkill. The unequal camber bothers me most, but I would like to see it vertical too. I'm just that way. Unless somebody "illuminates" me first, I'm going to set it at zero toe-in and zero camber with something like half fuel and my weight in the pilot's seat. That should be just about average for both takeoffs and landings. Bengelis didn't have an opinion either way, and said "shoot for straight ahead". I have Pazmany's book "Light Airplane Design", which has pages on gear design, but never once mentions toe-in or camber, so I'm ASSuming that straight ahead is the ticket.
