Still has to do the crank flange mod and the generator mod to the cases... There are 2 or 3 completely different combustion chambers for these engines, so if you go swappin, buyer beware, you can't just swap cylinders. He's bought 5 "complete" engines to come up with the 2 "serviceable" ones. He's putting one of these 0-290's in a Midget Mustang, and he's currently in the market for a Cozy, or Long Easy for the other engine. My friend claims that the 0-290 converted engine is able to perform IFR & Aerobatics after the mods, I wonder now if that's an unreasonable application. I could go on for days on this subject, but I'll just point you to two places: It's a no-brainer... ===== Scott Cable KR-2S # 735 Linden, MI s2cable1@yahoo.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I finally have my canopy I bought from Todds Canopies about halfway installed. It looks great. I am doing the Mark Jones style gullwing and I have the door cut out. I do have some photos but I do not have a site to put them on. If you would like to see a canopy that was specifically designed for a widen KR let me know. I will email the photos to you. The canopy itself is huge and I cut 6" off the front and 2" off the back. I can't say enough nice things about Todds Canopies, and at under $400 bucks it was a bargain. If you'll look back through the archives, you'll find that I broached this subject quite a while back... and got the evil eye from quite a few Netters. No problem; as you see, I survived ;o) My interest was in applying the 3-cylinder, 90 HP 2Si unit in the KR. It would certainly be a lot lighter than even the lightest VW and would fit (I looked at it in CAD to verify). Two problems came to light. One was fitting the redrive inside the cowl, but that's a minor issue if the builder is willing to live with a funny-looking nose cowl. The second problem was the same as what Mike Ladigo found with his turbine installation... if you use that light an engine, you have to hang it waaaay out there on the nose to keep the weight and balance in line. As it is, using the 1835 VW usually means mounting it on spool spacers to get it away from the firewall or else the CG is too far aft. Using the 2Si 2-stroke would exaggerate the problem even more. After a bunch of stories about seized engines, burned pistons, fouled plugs, high fuel consumption, oil mixing mess, and all the rest of it- I moved onto safer ground (4-strokes) and let the issue die. As they say, "don't kick a sleeping dog".
