I have hours in a taylorcraft tailwheel , cessna , piper , mooney ect . I still dont feel comfortable in my kr2 , i,ve taxied got the tail up ect . . I want and for good common sense reasons some dual tailwheel time in a kr2 or something very similar before i solo mine . I have seen to many people hop in something new without any duel and regret it . If there is anyone out their I can fly with first , please email me offnet mierz@wcoil.com n50482 Thanks ,Kevin No death wish here , and i know this one can bite you quick. At 08:37 AM 10/30/03 -0600, you wrote: >It's OK for a low time pilot to attempt flying a KR but only if he has >a death wish. The flap speed will be no problem, nor the weight, and the take off and landing should remain within the parameters. We have been thinking of leaving the heavier motor on the KR-2 and setting up a governor style system which will limit the speed the plane can go. Peel-Ply is a nickname for a Dacron Polyester tape that is available in different widths. You place it on the edge of a glass layup, to prevent frayed edges. Typically it is used on the KR-2 wing layup as their are 4 layers of glass, and you can't do it all at one time. > > 2- Is the fuse design by Eduardo a viable alternative? If anyone has had a chance to fly both. The retract was the original design by Ken Rand. The Fixed gear option came out in the late '80s. There is a reported 2-3kts speed INCREASE with the fixed gear over the stock retracts. There have been some nifty retract designs that retract fully into the wing, those are probably faster. > > 4- The books referred to commonly by some builders as info sources. > What one is most applicable to the KR2S build style? Then also get the Yellow Composite Construction guide from Aicraft Spruce. It was originally written for the Long-Eze, but some of the info applies to the KR glass lay-ups. > > 5- Does a split flap work better than a full flap? > http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/sandersen/ Split flap will work better (I think), but it is more complex. That is when something amazing happened, with full up elevator, the tail tied down and brakes applied, at 1/2 throttle, the tail came up! The outer wing panels were not installed and I only had about two gal. of fuel in the header tank. Has this happened to anyone else? I never seen a control surface generate that much lift with full opposite deflection.
