When I first took the stick in someone else's KR I zoomed up and down like a roller coaster for about ten seconds. I quickly realized that I was overcontrolling the plane trying to keep up with it. When I just stopped moving the stick it was fine. If you get into an oscillation don't chase the plane up and down, just hold the stick steady. Rest your hand against your leg if you need to. I gave my first passenger the stick a few days ago and he did the same thing until I told him to just stop moving the stick and let the plane settle down. After a minute getting used to it he could fly it just fine. -----Original Message----- From: Ronevogt@aol.com Sent: Oct 31, 2003 1:02 PM To: krnet@mylist.net Subject: Re: KR>First flight in my KR2 soon. Netters: I'm a 7,000 hour CFII/ATP. My KR-2S was signed off 5 days ago. It has tricycle gear with a Subaru EJ-22w/reduction drive. I'm sneaking up on the actual flying of the little beast by doing high speed runs down the runway. I will continue in this approach until I feel absolutely sure of myself before I slip the surly bonds of earth. I can't imagine a low time pilot trying to fly a KR without getting some instruction from a qualified CFI before flying one of these things. By the way, (for all of you with tricycle landing gear), at what speed does your nose gear come up? I think I might be a little nose heavy. Short term benefits are = great, but be careful of the long term damage potential to healthy = pipes. Ceramic or some other thermotec coating is probably the best way = to bring temps down without pipe damage, but tends to be alittle pricey. = The drag racing world went through a phase of everyone wanting to get = all the horses they could out of an engine, and this was one of the ways = they found. Bad part was LOTS of pipes were rusting through, and the = wrap makes inspection VERY difficult without un-wrapping. Contrary to = automobiles, exhaust leaks for us are VERY serious! Lycoming and = Continental have had their share of struggles with just changing a = design exhaust and springing leaks unexpectedly. Personally, I would = find a way to route more air, or improve existing flow. If you are = going to spend money on the exhaust, match the lengths of the pipes for = even back pressure, and install Super-trap mufflers, Borla mufflers, or = Flowmaster mufflers and actually improve the exhaust scavenging. These = mufflers made for your engine, or one similar in size, will do more than = the wraps, and probably cost less! They will also help with torque and = power, as well as make it quieter. A good set of headers, and muffler = will actually raise not lower your power output. It was proven a few = years ago that in all classes of drag racing except the Top-fuel funny = cars and dragsters, that mufflers actually produced MORE HP than = without, if properly matched to the engine. High performance shops, and = catalogs from Jegs and Summit Racing will have combinations that will = work well for our engines. This past weekend we hosted here in Orlando = the Outlaw Street cars shootout with street legal cars running 4inch = pipes through mufflers, 500cid engines producing 1500hp. Some of you already know that too many "bounced" messages will get you thrown off the list. The details as to why are located about halfway down http://www.krnet.org/instructions.html , under "Special Instructions for AOL users". It's not really just AOL users, but they seem to be affected the most. Last week about 30 AOL folks were thrown off at the same time! This may seem unimportant at the moment, but someday you'll wonder where KRnet went, and this is the answer. Newbies are hereby requested to read the entire page. I'd do just about anything to get you guys to delete the vast majority of a message before you reply to it! Is that asking too much??? A teeny bit of effort on your part makes it easier for hundred of others to read... I = think the bottom line is "don't upgrade" to AOL 9.0. Also, don't forget = that you can just use AOL as a connection to the web, from which you can = access one of the free web-based email accounts, or spend a few bucks a = year for a spam free web-based email account, which you could access = through the AOL connection. Personally, I have no use for AOL, and this is just one of the reasons. = I hate the way it "takes over" a computer after it's loaded. The older 8.0 never gave me a problem. On Oct 17th I = upgraded to the new AOL 9.0 and immediately got dropped from the = Corvaircraft list that day. The newer version as "intuitive" spam = filtering that is a real pain in the a..... if it is turned on. I had = to totally resubscribe to all the mailing list that I am on. You might want to let everyone else know that is what they = will have to do in order to stay on the mailing list.
