But I've contacted Rand Robinson by FAX and Susan Rand answered... well, not properly soon, not answering all the questions I had, but she answered! ;) Last contact has been on February, 18. Now the order for KR stuff is sent, payment paid through bank and I'm wondering when I'll receive the pakage. I still have no idea about what the aluminum kit contains, 'cause no one has told me, nor RR (!!!)... This is a promise, it would be the object for a future e.mail. And, to all the people who live outside U.S.A. (like me): when paying by direct bank deposit, ask always to your supplier his Bank "BIC" code (also known as "SWIFT" code); RR doesn't give it (don't know why, any bank has one FOR FREE) and this will add more or less 25 US$ for Bank fees directly to you... well, I know, it's not a lot of money, but why should you pay for nothing? ZS-WEC is built differently. There are 3 tanks (1 header, 2 wing tanks), but only the header has got a cap. You fill the wing tanks through the header, and empty them to the header, via a pump. The wing tanks are interconnected, and there is a valve between them and the header tank. Now, the header tank has a vent through its cap; but the two wing tanks are vented to the main tank. Unless everything is full in the system, nothing nasty can happen, because if the main tank is too full, it will overflow to the wing tanks through their vents. Does that give you any ideas? I have just modified my EH Holden fuel caps on my wing tanks to a similiar arrangement to give an inch or so more "head" over my internal vents (now blocked off) that drained to below the wing. The latter were continually overflowing in the above circumstances but the extra 'head" has reduced this markedly. I could reduce it still more by brazing in a small tube still higher on top of the caps but it starts to look a bit like a coat hangar. I like the RV solution where the vent tubes run up the inside of the firewall (say for 18") then U-turn down again to drain via an opening below the fuselage facing the wind. You can just about stand the RV on its wing tip before the vents leak (well maybe I exaggerate a little but...). Have to watch out for exhaust gases/sparks near the vents I imagine but I'm sure Dana could discuss this further for us. I mention this option because you need to design it in early in tank construction. To retrofit is a big and difficult job for my tanks due lack of easy access thus my cheap interim solution above. I was not so lucky but mine is now back in the air with 19.9 hours on the meter. After reading the above paragraph in your post my question is do you have vents between each bay in your tanks along the top edge? If not air will become trapped as you fill the tank and you would have large air bubbles in the tank instead of fuel. If the bays are properly vented the bottom holes are all that's necessary. I have two 1 1/2" semi-circle holes cut in the bottom of each baffle between each bay in my wing tanks with a 3/8" vent tube in the top forward corner between each bay. This setup seems to work fine for me. It allows the fuel to fill quickly and I've not noticed any fuel slosh in flight, assuming I would feel or notice it. Remove the assy, remove the piston and install a new "O" ring. Reassemble and refill. Fill with fluid from the bottom and push the fluid to the reservoir until full. A second body may be helpful there. If your assy's are Cleveland or similar it is really a no brainer. Good luck! I have had so many problems with Aircraft Spruce I will never order from them again unless they are the only place I can find what I need. The last run in I had with them was over some bolts that I ordered. I messed up and ordered the wrong grip length, (my fault), but I asked if I could send them back for a refund and they said of course as long as they were not used. I had ordered 3 different sizes lengths and the shortest one was way to long. I had only removed 1 bolt from the box that was the shortest length when I realized they were not going to work. I threw it back in the box and sent them back. After a week went by I called to find out why I had not received a credit to my account. They to me it had just went though today and was for half of what it should have been for because they said half of the bolts were missing. The only way I could prove that they were all there was the return shipping weight was the same as the initial shipping weight. After about 3 weeks of fighting I went to the president of the company Jim Irwin. He got It work out and I got my money back but I shouldn't have to run to the president every time the mess something up but apparently that is what it takes with Aircraft Spruce. I placed 4 orders so far this year and they have messed up 3 of them.
