I am here to tell you that silver paint is very hard to shoot, and only with an HVLP gun of good quality. Two gal. of paint are enough to finish a KR2, if you don't make too many mistakes. I used Polyfiber enamel,Nevada silver. When you see her at airventure please be kind on your evauation of her, I am not a pro painter, but she looks nice enough to fly around for awile. I used Shell 862 resin and TETA hardner, the same stuff they used to use at Lancair. I worked there for ten years part time and they used the Shell 862 on all of their parts. Due to it's toxic nature they switched over to a Jeffco resin system which is still toxic but not as bad as the Shell stuff. At no time did they ever use vynl ester resin in their planes. everything was epoxy resin. I haven't been there for four years so I don't know what they're doing now but I doubt if they use the vynl ester. It and polyester resin desolve epoxy. We used Shell resin to slosh a leaky 235 wing tank once. Just poured it into the gas cap and let it run down to the lowest part of the tank where the leak was. ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 19:53:47 -0400 From: "Timothy Bellville" Subject: Re: KR> Paint To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <001401c45658$aa21f740$652b4b0c@HPHome> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hi Mark, I'm going to be there from the 24th to the 29th. The Vinylester resin I have is way outdated,so ,is there a good alternative? Dan Diehl says that epoxy other than Vinylester can be used if the fiberglass has been sanded well. Any confirmations about this, or any other suggestions?
