I have gotten messages with viruses that had Mark's old email address that he hasn't had in a long time, Ron Eason's address, and a few other listers. If you get a suspicious looking email from a name you recognize on the list with an attachment it can easily be a virus and not be from the name on the return address at all. They still had a demand for the engine so I believe they put it back in production as an after market item. It's not sold in their bikes any more. And yes, it has a dry sump. He is using a reduction drive and the engine fit in the Zenair 601 rather nicely. His first engine was approx 80 hp and the latest one installed is approx 100 to 110 hp. He will have the 80 hp version at Oshkosh mounted to a powered parachute trike for demos. Needless to say he takes considerable bad-mouthing about a Harley engine in an airplane. At an airport cookout a few weeks ago the tower contoller came down for a hotdog and I asked him (with everyone present , of course) if he sent the grounds maintenance personel out to check for an oil slick on the runway after the Harley landed. It's a good thing Bret has a sense of humor or I might have had my body cavities stuffed full of hotdogs!! Brian Kraut Engineering Alternatives, Inc. www.engalt.com *************** The reason I sent that to Brian is that I asked him to send me any pic of his spar construction, and I thought that is what the "attachment" was. I was concerned that he might have picked us that virus and unknowingly sent it. Even the most updated antivirus software can be compromised by new viruses. The bastards that make those viruses should be taken out and shot.(just ranting) The damage they create is in the BILLIONS of dollars. Being a builder and creator, it just galls me to no end when people cause wanton destruction. It takes years to build marvelous systems and machines, hard work, sweat and love, and just in a few minutes some idiot can destroy it. If it is loaded only in compression like the vertical spacers in the spars you could actually make the piece stronger. If you do it in a piece that is loaded in tension or bending it is a totally different story. The rudder cable went through the tube and right under the seat. I put lithium grease on the cable before putting it through the tube. My plan was to keep checking the tube and replace it as soon as it looked like the cable started to wear a groove in it where it bent under the seat. After 45 hours there was no noticeable wear at all. The cable ran right along the side of the fusalage and was out of the way and looked good. On the 2S I want the cable to run under the aft spar since it is raised some. I might use a pulley on the back side of the forward spar and one mounted off the aft spar or I might just use the nylaflow tube again. I will have to look after I get the spars and rudder pedals in. I joined the local glider club. $30 a month, about $12 for a tow depending on height, and $6, yes six, dollar rental for the glider. They have five gliders, never have enough people waiting to need them all in the air at one time, and I will be able to get checked out in the tow plane soon. Flying the tow plane is FREE flight time and does not require a commercial rating. Also met another member with an L-39 that will give me jet time for fuel cost only, about $250 an hour. If anyone wants to find a local glider club go to www.ssa.org.
