My prop had a resonance at 1300 and I was told by Ivo just to avoid that spot. I suspect that their may have been another at around 2500 RPM that was not as easy to detect due to prop blast. A most likely case is that the IVO is just not suited for the VW and that the resonance was the cause. My crank was tested round before installation. My IVO gave the resonance on both the old and the new engine. This is the main reason it was established in the first place so ask all the questions you want to. I'm sure you can glean some information from there. Or if you're feeling adventurous you can drive (or fly) the 400 or so miles to Mount Vernon, IL on Friday and/or Saturday and see a few KRs in person. See http://krgathering.org for details. You'll find this list will be quiet for the next couple of days until the most vocal guys get back from the gathering. But I'm sure we'll get a smattering of stories and pictures on Sunday or Monday from the guys who went to the gathering. If you want to ask a more specific question we might be able to get an answer for you. What I need to begin with is a set of weights to decide whether my fiancé and I would fit into a KR2. I would be more than willing to take this discussion off the KR2 list server if you would include your personal email address. Would love to go to Mount Vernon, IL but this is NOT in the cards for me, at least for this year. In the interim, the sites that proved very valuable and interesting for me: http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/ http://www.erols.com/donreid/kr_page.htm http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n886mj/homepage http://kr-builder.org/ A particularly interesting site and my favourite: http://www.kr2-egb.com.ar/ It is all in Spanish, but the pictures are so good that it hardly matters. I copies all of his pages and used some web based free translating software to translate all the narrative to English - wonderful reference material and very inspiring. Take care Steve J http://www.freetranslation.com/ http://translation1.paralink.com/ ------------------------------ Message: 11 Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 17:20:55 -0400 From: Scooter Subject: Re: KR> Looking for basic specifications To: KRnet Message-ID: <41533E37.5070805@ctc.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed I guess the best answer here is... it depends. I'm going to base all my information off the KR2S design since it is an improvement over the KR2 design According to the official design specs from http://www.fly-kr.com/ : Gross Weight 980 lbs. Useful load 460 lbs. Which gives an empty weight of 540 lbs. From what I've been reading most KRs end up with an empty weight closer to 700 lbs, but then again they up the gross weight to around 1000-1200 lbs. (Do not plan on doing any high G maneuvers at this weight. And search the archives http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp for more details, its been discussed before). Lets use the 460 lb useful load. With 16 gallons of fuel, thats 16*6=96 lbs. so we are down to 364 lbs. If you and your fiance weigh the same you'd better be under 182 lbs. each. Hope this helps with your decision. So many of us have made so many changes to the KR design, it appears that no two are alike. It is wise to start with the KR 2S, plans... S being the streched version and then you can tap all of the resources on the internet. Are you interested in buying plans and building or buying a kit and assemblying? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Bienkowski" To: Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2004 3:31 PM Subject: KR> Looking for basic specifications > Hello! > > I am new, just today, to this list. > > Would someone be good enough to point me to a web site where I could > see some "real" specs for a KR2 or KR2S??? > > Thanks, > Joe Bienkowski, Bowling Green, OH 43402 jbienkowski@mindspring.com > > > > > _______________________________________ > to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to KRnet-leave@mylist.net > please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html ------------------------------ Message: 14 Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 14:53:27 -0800 From: "Al Friesen" Subject: Re: KR> Mt Vernon To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <000401c4a1c0$2376fd90$2d3451cf@alk1e9f7i3pcg3> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original All, I am on my way. Schaeffer, Pettaway, Shirley, Flesner, Clapp, Chizek - just to mention a few. Heard that there were at least 20 KRs expected. Looks like a great next 2 days!! I dropped off my PA system for Friday and Saturday. One of the "benefits" of living close to the Gathering. I'm flying over tomorrow. I've talked to Steve Bennett and Marti Roberts and they are both flying in tomorrow as well. Looks like it is about to be a 4 day Gathering in the future rather than a 3 day Gathering. To those who will miss it, Mark Langford had a new Cannon camera hanging around his neck so I'm sure you will see lots of pictures by the end of next week. Here's to Mark. If you are still thinking about attending, Video Bob told me that he is planning on creating a short Video for the Dinner on Saturday evening. Don't miss it. See you at the Gathering.
