Weather was a little windy, Hot and Dusty (go figure it's the Desert) 2 KR's Scott Cable and Steve Glover, congrats on the awards both of you. Steve was able to come to my house and review my project. I was thinking it would be ready to start/ taxi/ fly in 2 months. Steve on the other have stated more like 6 months. Well that is a major motivational tool for me. Not to mention my wife was not happy with his estimate either. I will be there with my plane next year. No doubt. Maybe. At least it won't be in my wifes parking spot... ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2004 23:02:51 -0500 From: "Rick Human" Subject: Re: KR> Re: Screwed, blued and tattoed !!! It's really a simple matter to remove metal screws that have gotten some flox or resin in the threads. Grab your soldering iron and heat the head of the screw, the resin will soften and allow the screw to be easily removed. You may have to follow up with a tap to clean the resin out of the threads after it re-hardens, but that's better than risking a bad bond - it really doesn't take much heat to do this either. I had the same problem with my aileron mounting - it works and works well. Each system can be modified to meet one's individual needs and flight parameters. I have looked at Mark L site and Scott Cable's, My concern is ,it seems a different shape to Mark's, Is there a difference in the two Dragron fly Canopies???? Mark's web pics seem to show is canopy flatter on top, and no where near as pointed. My Canopy just does not seem to fit across the front deck, How much does need cutting from the front, or do we just throw it on the front deck like the KR plans say and glass around it.? The front of my Canopy is very pointed, and cuts across the dash panel, if I was to fit it as is, it would block out part of the panel. Or do I just pull my finger OUT and start cutting it up? All four spars are complete. I am including the fiberglass wingtips also as seen in the pics I also have on CD the newsletters since inception. The canopy has the protection spray applied The brake and runner pedals are moveable in all directions due to having several threaded bolt backers installed. It comes with an original interior set containing the two side panels, the carpet, and the seat slings The two wing tanks and the upper center tank are aluminum, sloshed, and senders installed. The upper center has a flop tube for aerobatics my intent was to have the wing tanks feed the center tank constantly. I have the wiring diagram for that to happen. Included also is all the fiberglass, epoxies you will need to finish, a lot of spruce some foam and all the polytone to paint (white). The rear horizontal stabilizer as well at the elevators, is built I don’t have pictures yet its in my garage behind a lot of very heavy boxes. LoL! As you can see you are getting a lot for your money the canopy and rudder/brake setup, and fiberglass cost more! I am desperate for cash!. The tail wheel setup didn't work for me, though there wasn't anything wrong with it. I don't think the filler block was 12" off the ground, but it was higher than many of the tail draggers I saw at the Gathering this fall. I sold the tail wheel setup to Ed Blocher in Florida. I seem to remember he reworked it somehow. I fly off 2000 feet of grass with children and dogs on the runway. Over the nose taxi visibility is as important to me as is the propeller. I've thought exactly the same thing, and suspect that it's true. I mentioned this to Bill Clapp (whose canopy looks more rounded than my Dragonfly also) and it was his opinion that the thing was floppy enough that you could just about form it into whatever shape you wanted. Mine was simply set in it's free state on top of the foward deck and longerons and what you see is how it turned out. I'm very happy with the flattened top and almost vertical sides, since it allows a good view of the ground, and no interference with my head. I've always been under the impression that the Todd's canopies were somewhat "blown" looking, as compared to the Slipstream Technology's Dragonfly canopy, and from what I've seen so far, I'm still of that opinion... The canopy is big enough though that you can cut out the section that works best for you. Yes it would be nice for a little more vertical on the sides but the cost was right and I like the rounded look. As long as your nogin fits underneath.... Vernon - 2005 - KR Gathering -------Original Message------- From: KRnet Date: 10/13/04 06:12:51 To: KR builders and pilots Subject: Re: KR>fitting Todds Canopy Has any one, apart from Scott Cable finished fitting a Todd's Dragonfly Canopy to a KR2. ( it did cost $900.00Aust. to get it here. I hope that wasn't baffling. Anyway, look at a picture of the engine installation on my plane because it is built exactly to Steve's plans for baffling and works great. Several years ago Steve took pictures of my baffling to use as an example. I don't know if it is on his web site or ? I checked my web site and I don't have a picture of my engine baffling so you will have to look elsewhere. Sorry, I know it is out there. By the way, I have my CHT under the "dreaded" #4 spark plug and it works fine with the cooling I have. After seeing his plane I didn't have a lot of hope to what my baffling was going to look like. I cut one set of alum prior to going to the gathering and was not happy with the way it fit to the motor. After going to the gathering, and seeing other planes and how they fit their baffling, I was comfortable cutting and refitting a new set. I still used the basic templates from G/P's, but I fit them in a way that I feel will get me better results. If any body is interested in seeing photos e-mail me off line. What can I put on the canopy to protect it, if I remove the plastic ??? I heard he passed away recently. It's a nice one. Saw it several years ago at OSH. It is in the catalog. I have used it quite successfully. Just be sure to put it on thick or else it will be difficult to get off, and thicker protects better. I put it on my windshield to be able to run it through the band saw for trimming. There is a time for building and a time for FLYING and the time for building has expired.
