I have Diehl Wink Skins that cost $1800, and a 1600 engine from a KR2 with low hours in the air, engine mount, spinner, accessory case, mag, carb, exhaust etc... for sale if anyone is interested and can pay a fair price. I wish i had the skill and/or patience to complete it but I have to admit that I don't. Given the chance, I would buy a completed KR1 or similar and probably will. Also, I am REALLY HAPPY that this KR Society seems to be coming together better than ever on the web. The fact that someone has all the newsletters available on DVD is just incredible! I bought my first KR kit in 1987, sold it a year later to buy a Grumman AA1B, which was a cool plane but slower and more of va gas hog than any KR, sold that, and started to buy the stuff to build the next KR. Bill Reents was a great inspiration and I spoke to him many times back then. I noticed that he had use the VW distributor clamp instead of the drilled and tapped screws as called for in the instructions. Has anyone else done this? Jerry and I are seriously considering doing this because of concern over creating a stress riser by drilling into the case for these screws. Mine did come loose not too long ago and changed the timing. The small allen heads can be a pain sometimes also. It probably does not occur often, however. Happy New Year! Then make a metal ring and glue it in place as you tune it in. You can get a range of corrections. When you get the static pressure right, it will also make the altimeter accurate. It seem to be accurate at the low end also as the KR lifts off just above 50mph indicated. I have a bit of extra length on the hoses and when installing the outer wing panel I run the hoses into the outer wing and out the mounting hole. With wing attached I stuff the hose as far as they will go into the 1/4" pitot/static tubes, stick the extra hose back into the wing and attach the pitot/static tubes. Here's a sample of a VW Type1 Limbach, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/germany/0410110918.jpg , that I took on our recent vacation to Germany. It's Friday, so maybe I can get away with this. Some of y'all probably have the day off and some time to kill. You might remember that I promised a web page detailing our German vacation, eventually. It's finally done, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/germany/ . Obviously I have a lot of time invested in this web page (it's 420 pictures, and is 33Mb big)... time which I really should have been working on my plane. Most people I've showed it too have raved over it, so it's probably not a complete waste of your time. If you're on dialup, start it downloading and come back in an hour so you don't find yourself waiting for each image to load. 33M is a lot of stuff, and although I've never seen it happen, it wouldn't surprise me if it became "unavailable" because of the bandwidth. But I don't really think HiWAAY has a bandwidth limit, so we'll find out. I ran my KR's Corvair engine some yesterday, and intend to spend the next three days working on the KR. I've fixed the slight compression problem I had on number 6, and will be checking the intake system next. One bank seems to be running richer than the other, as unlikely as that seems. I really haven't done much with it in the last few weeks due to demands from the workplace, holiday family stuff, and preventative maintenance on the wife's Audi. I'm getting back around to it, although it looks like I'll be going back to Germany (on business) for up to two months early in 2005. I'd better get it in gear! Y'all have a good one... Does this mean that I have to send another $10 or $5 in with my registration form? Also there is no place on any form that I saw so far that lets them know that you have reserved a number. Is there a way to let them know on the form ?
