Several certified light aircraft (Grumman Yankee, and Cirrus SR-20/22 come to mind) are no spin aircraft that tend to go flat and become unrecoverable. Spin recovery for the Cirrus is to pull the BRS. Having said that, I have spun my KR. It was actually recorded on video and appeared in a 1999 art video by Simone Aaberg Kærn. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy. I was flying formation in the KR with a Cub who kept slowing more and more. I intentionally spun to the right away from the formation. It was captured on video from the Cub. I don't recall any anomolies or difficulties in recovering. However, I will add the caveat that my KR probably has the CG a bit more forward than most which generally aids in spin/stall recovery. Jeff Scott ------- > Only the canard planes (mainly Rutan designs) won't spin. If you don't > know how to recover the KR, you have a reasonable chance of becoming one of the statistics of those who die due to a low altitude spin. A few jets (T-38) aren't spun because they flame out almost immediately, so the only recourse is to punch out after 1.5 turns. The KR2 or S do not fall in either of these categories. Nor is either model close to the short coupling of the famed GeeBee of the 30's which made spin recovery nearly impossible. As of now I'm in pretty good shape on the finances thanks to the two years at Red Oak. Linda Bennett and crew were able to grow the "financial pot" to a near self-supporting amount. She forwarded $1860 for up front expenses. We will be asking for donations at the Gathering as well as selling shirts and hats. I'm trying to take our shirts to the next level this year with pocketed and collared shirts with embroidered patch above the pocket and embroidered hats. I'm looking to sell the shirts for $12 and the hats for $10 but I may have to bump that a dollar or two. The Banquet tickets will be $15 per person with the banquet/awards dinner held in the airport commons area on Saturday evening. The awards dinner is always a great finish to the Gathering so you don't want to miss it. The hotel did not require a deposit on the rooms and neither has the caterer. . Major disappointment, as mentioned by Mark Langford, is that we will not be allowed to bring beer onto the airport. I had $1.50 beers set up with the airport restaurant before they went belly up. Anyone able to build a KR from the current set of plans will figure a way somehow. (You just didn't hear it from me.) In the past the keg has produced some interesting and exciting social circles. Does anyone remember the story that broke up the circle last year at Red Oak and caused us all to roll in laughter to the exits? As I stated earlier, the airport manager said tent camping would be o.k. and motor homes would have a place to park but no hookups. With all the interest expressed I'll double check on that. REMINDER: Those of you that want to take advantage of the special rate offered by the Holiday Inn will have to make your reservation by Sept. 1. They are offering Gathering attendees the $99 room for $66. REMINDER: Go to the www.krgathering.org web site and click on the link for the Gathering flyer. Print several out and get them to the local airports. I've contacted several magazines for the calendar of events but I'm asking each of you to try to get on any list you know of. Direct them to the Gathering web page. It won't hurt if they get multiple requests it will only help to get us listed. Get us on any web sites you know of also. THANKS.........
