Cheers Christian OE-VPD ----------------------------------------- My friend Aube Coote ( Retired Flying Instructor, and Airforce) build a standard KR2, Aeropower engine, he used a spring loaded trim, He has NO problems flying his KR2 hands off, ( good weather) He stayed at my place last night to look over my KR2 ( he will be the Test Pilot) and we got into the questions of fitting a trim system. He does not like the trim tab in the elevator ( personal choice) as he has had trim units fail in the past. His set up places pressure on the main controls, ( I sent a copy of this set up to M. Langford, last year), He is really happy with the way is works. I have not as yet build the TRIM system, so I can not supply photo's. But when I do I will place them on my web page. Can > you show us the parts of your filter, taken apart? The air filter is very simple. There are only three major components: 1) the carb mounting flange 2) the filter 3) the cover plate. This is how I made it: 1) I bought an air filter from Aeroconversions http://www.sonex-ltd.com/order_engines.html which is for the Aerocarb $50 part #ACV-C10-30). 2) I purchased a piece of 2 1/2" od 1/8" wall x 2" long piece of aluminum from the local metal shop for $2.60. I then cut a length of 1/2" from that. 3) Next, I made a plate which would mate up to the Ellison flange they have on their carb inlet. 4) Went to a local welder and had him weld the ring to both the carb flange and the Aerocarb filter. The welding, of course, ruined the nice red anodized finish on the Aerocarb filter but the cover plate still looks real nice. It even has the Aeroconversions logo stamped in it. So, after all is said and done, I have an air filter which cost about $70 including the welding. Right now I have no photos of it taken apart but will post some when I remove it for the air box. BTW, I am not doing the Y connector you mentioned for heat. I will have only one tube for that. That is all determined by airfoil shape and angle, distance between wing and tail surfaces, size of the flying surfaces, etc. Without knowing what "flying his KR hands off with NO problem" really means I don't know if his KR flies any better than mine. I have "NO problem" flying my KR hands off in good weather (calm air) but only for 30 seconds or so. It then begins to stray off pitch and as it does so the divergence accelerates. I never feel like I'm having to fight the aircraft to retain control, even in rough air, but long term "hands off" pitch stability just isn't there. 77+ hours and still lovin' it........ You need to be there because this is the place decisions are made. All questions about the KR can be answered at the KR gathering. As good as this KR net is, it still is not as good as looking, touching, seeing, feeling, an actual KR and talking to those who have built and flown a KR. The first gathering I went to, I was thinking of building a KR and that is where I made the decision that I wanted to go ahead with the project. Since then, at every gathering, I have found solutions to problems or at least gotten some ideas about how to build something that I was unsure of or the plans were not clear about. I also take a lot of pictures so that I can study the problems later and decide what will work best for my situation. There is also a motivation factor that is invaluable, and I need that again right now as I have been so busy lately that my hours spent on the KR have suffered. If you are still sitting on the fence trying to decide to go to the gathering or not, then make the decision now to attend and then start making plans to get there. The time and money will be well spent. If, like me, you are on a tight budget the time and money will be well invested into your KR project. Jack Cooper kr2cooper@earthlink.net Why Wait? I'll tell you that I agree with the message, but resent it coming as an intrusion of my privacy and a misuse of the KRNet . Viruses, worms and Trojans pick up names (and e-mail addresses) off infected computers address books and send out messages that mimic those people's e-mail. That's why it's hard to track them down. I've had a lot of phony KR e-mails that look like they come from KR netters. DO NOT OPEN them. Your computer can get infected simply by opening the e-mail, you don't have to open an attachement. Never open anything from anyone you don't know. Use a good virus protection and keep it up-dated.
