I think this is going to give me about 1.3 inches less head room. I want to keep the nice shape on the bottom, formed to the wing. I am 5' 8". My wife and kinds are not tall either., but I'm thinking of ride I may give to tall people in the future. What will that 1.3 inches less do as far as head room? I geuss I could just add 2 inches to the total height? Would the type of canopy I choose make a difference? I like the look of the drangonfly, but maybe Todd's canopies would be an option. Drawing out the fuselage is getting me stoked!! Ok that's 3 questions......i iknow. I am only in the stage of building my worktable so still a long way to go. R.S.: Hi Peter! We are at the same stage. It took me 10 hours to build my work table. Make sure it is perfectly flat and level. I used wires streched from end to end as a guide for the bracing that the particle board rests on. That way I knew the top would be flat. I also used lag bolts on the legs of the table to make it adjusable as far as level is concerned. I used a water level to make sure it was perfectly level. Just a 3/8 clear plastic tubing with a little food color and water. It worked great! I'm going to take some pictures as I go along, but I don't think I'll make a web site until I'm alot farther along. Good luck on your project Peter! If you reshaped the bottom of the fuselage to mate up with the bottom of the aft spar it will not make a difference in how much head rood is left. The seat bottom and back is that aft spar. What ever room you have between the top of that aft spar and your canopy is it. Changing the belly wont make a difference there. How did you figure out where that aft spar was going to fall? Did you use the new airfoil template and make the level lines on it parallel to the upper longeron? What ever room you have between the > top of > that aft spar and your canopy is it. That's probably a common misconception, but you don't sit ON the aft spar, your butt ends up down the front side of it, with the "small" of your back up against the aft spar. If you tried to sit ON the aft spar, the canopy would have to go up about 5 inches higher than the drawings show. The stock sling seat is hung over the front of the aft spar, and that's where you sit. If he's only 5'-8", that'll probably work out OK, but the next guy may not think so, if he ever sells it. In my plane (and other KRs), it's the bottom of the fuselage just in front of the aft spar that defines the maximum lowest point of the seat. I'm about 6', and I'll have just enough room for headphones and an inch of clearance with my canopy 17.25" above the longeron, with my seat bottom touching the floor. I like the look of the drangonfly, but maybe Todd's canopies would be an option.< I guess I should've answered this one too, while I was at it. Yes, you could just add 2 inches to the height. I'm not sure that the canopy height is actually given anywhere on a drawing anyway. I remember having to scale mine off of the 11"x17" side view that's included with the plans (or maybe it was the info pack) to get my height. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Todd's canopy is a little more rounded on top than a Dragonfly, so you'd have to take that into consideration. If you are building your own canopy and decks, the best way is a trial fit, where you sit in the fuselage (I bridged across the longerons with some 3/8" plywood to keep from falling through the floor) while the canopy is jigged roughly in place. Make sure you allow for headphones and an inch or two for upholstery and clearance, and in your case, maybe a few more in case you ever sell it. There's some more info at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/kcf.html that you've probably already seen. I climbed to 3000' made some turns to get the feel of the plane. I then climbed to 5000' did some slow flight near a stall. After half an hour I headed back to land. The first aproach was too high so I went around. Second approach was good, I made a great three point landing. FLYS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
