The engine is small and light, but when you add in the reduction gear and the water cooling, how do you keep the weight down to that of the "vair"? Personally, I believe the rotary engine is the future of experimental aviation because of its reliability. Unfortunately, a single bank system with a small radiator and PSRU (perfect for the KR2) hasn't become available. This is the naturally aspirated carbureted version. Turbo fuel injected version is slightly heavier but it also puts out 275-280 hp which more than compensates for the added weight. Since most builders seem to be opting for stretched versions of the 2S anyway the weight and balance isn't that complicated. At least that's the way it's working out on paper. Will keep the net informed as to how this works out in actuality. Don't think it will be a problem with mine however since the side by side bit is being changed to tandem for a non claustrophobic ride. With all fuel being in the wings and no rack behind the seats I don't foresee any problems that cannot be eliminated by moving the battery rear. He was running the FBO in Grove Field/Camas ( 1W1 ). To help his wife out of debt, we are currently selling his tools, supplies and his KR2 project. I would appreciate your help to find out what´s it worth. I have set up a website for this purpose with all the pictures I could take. Please check at http://scott.jet24.de N50WM is still registered to the previous owner, and we are currently missing all paperwork. Due to the situation, it might be impossible to find the logbooks etc. The body is sanded for repaint. From what we heard, it was sitting some time on the ramp in Tennessee, including rainy days. None of us has the experience to determine if the body is airworthy or not. The engine is a converted VW, but we can´t figure out the converting company. I have personally talked to Scott, and he was very happy about the KR2, because the engine was running so good. Since he was a very professional AMP and IA, I believe that. The prop says Marfa Hegy, TX . Thanks for helping me to find a fair price for Scotts wife and children. I am literally converting the garage that it is in into an office around the plane. I have built most of the ceiling over it and have started some of the drywall on the walls. It will be time to take off the garage door and cinder block up the hole soon and it will be a little hard to get a KR in and out at that point. I need to get the office finished so I can get all the junk out of the other garage and get back to work on the 2S hanging from the rafters in there (I seem to be taking after John Bouyea, but I am one KR up on him since I have owned three so far). I want $1,000 for the KR and $1,600 for a new set of Diehl wing skins still in the crate. I will sell the KR and the skins separately, or as a package deal for $2,500 if someone can come get them by next weekend (my spar material for the 2S will be here in a few days and I really, really need the room). This is a fairly well along KR and is a very good deal for what is included. I just finished sanding and priming the rest of the rudder and will have the entire tail primed and most of the fusalage by the time the weekend is over. I also might have the rudder and elevator control cables completed. I will also consider selling the Great Plains engine mount separately for $200 including shipping and the Diehl nose gear with a wheel and tire for $400 including shipping if no one bites on the whole KR soon. That will at least make it a little shorter so it fits better. I also have a complete Diehl tailwheel version main gear for $400 from another KR. Email me at brian@engalt.com or call me at 904-536-1780.
