If I had an engine larger than a VW 2180, such as a Corvair or a type IV, then I would agree with Ellison and that statement. However, I strongly believe that the EFS-3 is too large for the smaller engines. Ellison says to just limit the throttle slide opening, I say that is crap. I have communicated with Ellison on many occasions and each time, I blast them for discontinuing that carb. If you can get one and are using a 2180 or smaller, get it. I love the carb and I think that Ellison has done the light plane community a disservice by not producing that carb anymore. PS: Even though no one asked, I think that the 2 is too small for the larger engines. Like you needed another opinion to add to your trash bin. I've thought for some time that your various signatures have been "asking for trouble", but never mentioned it. I guess it was just a matter of time before somebody did. Joachim should have sent that direct to you rather than to the whole list, but CERTAINLY your reply should have gone direct to him. Although people who know me will vouch for the fact that I'm not exactly a choir boy myself, it's so easy to keep from using that kind of language when you're typing that I can find no excuse for it. If there's one hard fast rule around here, using the "F word" will get you thrown off as soon as I see it, so you can check KRnet email from the escribe archives from now on. Anything that doesn't have to do with flying or building KRs or engines ruffles my feathers a little, but the mention of anything as controversial as religion or politics (and you managed to roll them both into one) is definitely out of place here, not to mention gratuitous cussing. If it doesn't then you can clean it up during the CC process Mark L details on his page. I will check it again tonight. I am studying to replace the VW with Corvair since I too believe the VW is great for solo work but under powered for the kind of flying I want to do, short fields, take off over obstacles, etc... Soaking the valves in carb cleaner deep enough to immerse them in should get it off them. The head carbon can be lightly buffed with a Dremel wire wheel or coarse POLISHING wheel, not the grinding or sanding wheels. They are used to clean up the flashing and smooth the roughness left by the original factory castings. For EXTREMELY detailed instructions on this check Marl L's site. Look under Corvair motor... It's simply against the rules. With regards to Mark's comment about a tech counselor charging to fill out and sign a logbook, that is expressly outside of the Technical Counselor's job, so I would assume that he was probably offering that service as an A&P mechanic. I have only put entries into a builders log as a duplicate of the form that I fill out and send to the EAA. The builder should keep a copy of the form and put it in or with his builders log anyway. -Jeff Scott ------------------------------ Message: 22 Date: Sat, 19 Mar 2005 20:35:14 -0600 From: "Mark Jones" Subject: Re: KR> tech advisors To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <010401c52cf5$775388a0$6401a8c0@wi.rr.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Jeff, I am glad you chimed in on that. I was actually talking with that Tech Advisor two days ago. He is an instructor and A&P for the flight service I rent Warriors from. I was doing a little flying prepping for my first flight and he gave me some really great advice on handling situations during a first flight. Just to clear things up, he did make additional inspections on my plane and he never again mentioned charging to sign off my logs...but then I did not ask him to either. The partly built Aussie design PT-3 has the same WAF as the KR . They have designed a very simple 4130 sliding tube and locking device, so one person can release the wing and fold it back I added a Link on my web page, in the construction, or try the link http://mywebpage.netscape.com/flyingkrphil/page1KRfoldingwing.html What do you think ??????????? I've seen this method employed on several different aircraft. Didn't someone named Robert Moore use this technique and even market the idea to KR builders some eons ago. My idea is to have the WAF's wrap around the spar with a door hinge type piece where the bolts go through and instead of bolting the wings together with horizontal bolts, there would be one bolt front and one bolt aft that would drop through the hinge and be much easier to remove and replace.
