You seem to have the same problem with the elevator trim that I had...you almost dont need it. People thought I was screwy when I mentioned that I did the first flight without ever touching the trim - from takoff to touchdown. Only at full cruise do I add just a touch of down - like an 1/8" or so. My other KR would never trim to straight and level. If you let go of the stick it would climb and the trim tab was deflected over an inch! It is soooooo nice to level off - adjust power and trim and then let go..and not have to be on the stick with seconds and now I dont have to touch it for minutes when in smooth air! If you are having major difficulty landing on a strip due to sever crossswind - check and see if you can land on a crossing taxiway. Some airports may also have short grass strip that can be used for such occasions. Highest wind Ive taken off and landed in is Kewanee IL. 35 knots down the runway. Luckily is was not gusty - just strong. Takeoff distance was about 300 feet and I was over 2000 by the end of the runway. Shortest landing was in Effingham, IL - previous day.. Touchdown roll was about 500 feet. I could have landed on the tarmak next to the fuel pumps and saved taxi time. The picture of your left wing stub I see somthing just above the main spar that looks like it must be some kind of opening for cabin cooling. Could you take a close up of that, it looks like somthing I would like to try. Also did you make your own engine mount? I am installing an 0200 but can't find a ready made mount so I guess I will weld up one. Did you have some kind of jig to make you mount? Any tips? thanks Jim Raleigh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glasseyegav" To: "KR builders and pilots" Sent: Saturday, April 02, 2005 10:51 PM Subject: KR> Yahoo! Some had mooring posts in the center which were eventually removed and paved over. After the airplane came into wide acceptance by the military after WW1 these round strips were used as training bases for the reasons mentioned in earlier posts. Moffat Field NAS still had one along with the old airship hangers in the 1960's. Probably gone by now though. Doug Rupert -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Turned onto a one mile final at 1000', backed off on the throttle and settled in at 100mph glide. I put the runway numbers just on top of the cowl and lowered the speed brake to half down position. At a half mile out, I lowered the speed brake all the way down and the drag really kicked in. Slowing to 70 mph at 100' Still slowing over the numbers, flaring, holding it off and watching the runway off the left nose. I can not see the runway straight in front of me for the last few feet. Touchdown....smooth as silk....wow I was impressed. This is just too much fun. Previous flights were made with no aileron gap seals. Today after having installed the mylar gap seals, I achieved a climb rate if 1200fpm at 100mph using the Warp Drive three blade prop and no spinner. The aileron gap seals on the AS 50xx airfoil is a must. The improved flying characteristics were very noticeable. Climb rate improved, slow flight improved tremendously and aileron response seemed better. All in all, another YeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaa was vocalized as I rolled ou after landing. Get it built guys, this is the most fun I have had in years.
