They look good. Do you know of critical dimensions: - distance from firewall to front plate - thrust line below top longeron. I presume the firewall is stock RR plus a bit below for air exit per your design. I'll chat to WW about cost but freight out here is a real killer at present. This plug started out life as my cowling on Bill Clapps' plane, so it was already pretty straight. Straight not because it was my cowling (NOT), but because Bill is a body man and put 10 pounds of filler on my cowling shape to make his very nice one. Bill then added one of WW's Corvair nosebowls and blended it in to "my" cowling, and this cowling is the result. The Molds are made by an expert who usually makes composite helicoper parts. It's top quality. There are a couple of photos at > http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/05072013m.jpg and > http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/05072015m.jpg . It's designed > to use a Van's 13" RV spinner, which WW will true up for you on a fixture for a fee if you'll ship it to him. The cowling has an extra inch or two in all directions, so it'll actually work with a slightly longer prop hub than his, if you're that brave. Total weight is about 10.5 pounds. I don't know that he has decided on a price yet, but it sure helps if you're putting a Corvair on a KR. Molds are made and he can ship them almost immediately... > > Mark Langford, Huntsville, Alabama > see KR2S project N56ML at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford email to > N56ML "at" hiwaay.net > -------------------------------------------------------------- > > _______________________________________ > Search the KRnet Archives at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp > to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to KRnet-leave@mylist.net > please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 07:14:37 -0500 From: "Mark Langford" Subject: Re: KR> WW holey cowling To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <003801c58eb6$edb8caf0$1202a8c0@1700xp> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" John Martindale wrote: > I reckon I'm interested in those cowls from WW. They look good. Do you know > of critical dimensions: Since its origins were my cowling, it's the same firewall shape as the RR KR2S plans call for, with an extra two inches added below for embedded NACA duct exits for cooling air. It's 28.75" from firewall to the back of the spinner backplate. Thrust line is 2.375" below the top longeron, which is pretty close to the best I could do with a Corvair engine and retain decent forward deck to spinner lines. His cowling has an extra inch added between the halves, so there is room for growth in that direction if somebody wanted it. This thing has more clearance all around the front than mine does though, and is designed to accept WW's front starter setup and 13" spinner. Besides, my cowling molds have been floating around for two years with people pulling cowlings out of them, so you can see where my head is. Headed to Larry's house shortly, and then to the Hartford KR get-together thing, and then on to OSH, so I'll see you on the other side, or at the KR Forum at 1:00 on Monday. Please let me know if you are coming and you are not listed below. If anyone wants to join in on a group fly to Oshkosh, the staging will be as follows. Arrive at Hartford, WI (KHXF) http://www.airnav.com/airport/KHXF on the morning of Sunday, July 24th. I will be there as well as Mark Langford. Langford is not flying his KR for obvious reasons and I am unsure if mine will be ready for Oshkosh by then or not. Regardless, we will be at the Hartford airport to greet any arriving KR's. Hartford airport is exactly 38.8 miles south of Oshkosh. There will be a lot of traffic as this is a "hot spot / final stop" prior to arriving Oshkosh. Also, if anyone is driving to Oshkosh and wishes to stop by the Hartford airport, please do so. I am taking the grill with us and will have Brats and Burgers and Soda (sorry pilots, no beer for you) for Lunch. Then after lunch the KR's can proceed on to Oshkosh. If you are going to attend, please let me know ASAP. The list of KR's flying in to Hartford so far are: Orma Robbins Joe Weber Bill Clapp Mark Jones (already at Hartford airport) Ken Jones Those driving in: Mark Langford Lee Van Dyke Pete Brautigam Menu: Grilled Brats & Burgers Chips Soda (for pilots) Beer: Amberbock (Langford started that tradition) This could be the start of an annual event, don't miss out.
