What we are asking is that you donate to the Prop Bank in order for us to purchase props. Right now we have only two props in inventory. If you make a donation to the Prop Bank, that gives you the right to borrow a prop from the Prop Bank with a small security deposit. Why should you join the Prop Bank and borrow a prop? This will give you the opportunity to test a prop on your airplane to determine if it is right for you. If you like the prop, it may be purchased from the Prop Bank. If you do not like the prop, you may return it and try another prop. Whether you buy a prop you test or not, it will at least give you some test results which you can use to help determine which prop is best for you before you do buy one. If you have a prop you wish to donate to the Prop Bank, I will gladly inventory it for you. Or, if you are willing to allow others to borrow your prop, please let me know so that I may list your prop. There are also two props on the loaner list right now. This could really be a good program if we are able to get enough donations to buy a wide variety of props. We will also be keeping stats on all prop performances, on the different KRs they are used on, for your benefit. If you are remotely interested in the Prop Bank, please help out with a donation. Thanks to those of you who have supported this project so far. *****Donations can be sent to the following*****: Mark Jones 615 Wexford Circle Wales, WI 53183 or if you use PayPal, my PayPal account is the same as my e-mail address: flykr2s@wi.rr.com Mark Jones (N886MJ) Wales, WI USA E-mail me at flykr2s@wi.rr.com Visit my KR-2S CorvAIRCRAFT web site at http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n886mj/homepage.html ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2005 07:53:15 -0600 From: "Randy Smith " Subject: Fw: KR> Re:registration To: Message-ID: <005201c50152$e2e80650$e0c6b944@home> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" ----- Original Message ----- From: Randy Smith To: Dan Heath Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2005 7:52 AM Subject: Re: KR> Re:registration The FAA does not notify any state about any registration. The only option you have is to have residence in another state that is more favourable, or find a county that has lower taxes. As soon as you register it, the FAA notifies the county of your address, that you have registered, then the fun begins. You will be notified that you now have to pay taxes on over 100,000 worth of property as they have no way, nor do they even try, to find what the value is. You then have to fight to the death with them to get the value set where it is more appropriate, as if there could be such a value. I don't know why we let our government do these things to us. As a segment of all the species on earth, we have to be the most stupid. I have worked on violins that were in excess of 200 years old, the spruce tops, which take a lot of abuse, are generally as good as the day they were built. An ocassional slight check or crack on the spar might be repaired simply by glueing on plywood webs as on the opposite side of the spar. If the spar has been varnished, you will have to sand that off before glueing webs on... but being sure to varnish the inside before attaching plywood. Any enclosed spaces should have 1/8 holes drilled in the new web to provide breathing room. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, January 22, 2005 9:38 PM Subject: KR> Wood Spars > Can anyone tell me the life span of wooden spars before they should be > replaced. The "Best Machine Shop" in town thinks I am being stupid for not using a 20/20 cut crank. He just does not know. Since my post of the bad crank I found 3 cars in east Georgia in a junk yard. When I called I was told I probably wouldn't want them because the were not the engines with the dual carbs on each side. WOW, what he don't know will same me money. I told him I would come look at anyway and might be able to take them off his hands. The engines are still in the cars and I have to remove them myself. Never took a vair engine out but have to so on dozens of Volkswagens. Isn't there a hidden bolt in the bell housing I will need to find. I have never tried to reuse it but I would not think it is meant to be used more than once. If you are trying to save costs of buying a lot of peel ply, try dacron from your local fabric shop. The only thing with dacron is that it has net been treated with a release agent like peel ply. Therefore, you must remove the dacron before the epoxy fully cures. Do some test lay ups before you do an actual lay up on your plane. I have heard several folks say they have very good results using dacron. I am planning on building an aircraft to be powered by a Corvair engine. I originally wanted to build a VP-2, but it's just not going to be wide enough for me at 6'2" 250lb any my fiancé at 6' tall "if I post weight I could be killed". I have begun a design of my own, but this will take much longer to build for a number of reasons outside the topic of this email list. I still plan to eventually build my own design but I'm just not sure that it should be my first build. The more I read about the KR-2S the more it grows on me. However, I have also read that, like the VP-2, it makes a better fat single seater than a cruiser for 2 adults. I know that some of you here have widened the KR-2s and I wanted to know what would be involved in widening it to 44". Particularly I was concerned with how this modification would affect the loading on the wing spars and what changes would be needed to the stub wings. Should I choose to build a KR I will use the AS5048/15 airfoil. Thanks, Sean C.
