I thought we had a discussion about this and decided it couldn't be done with the KR. It appears that it can be modified prior to its first certification to meet LSA limitations................ or perhaps the dicussion was actually about whether or not the KR could be certified as an E-LSA, which, of course, we can't, right.? I'm building an aircraft that is just outside the definition of an LSA. Can I, as the builder, modify the aircraft so that it meets the performance definition of an LSA and fly it as a sport pilot? Yes. For a homebuilt, you have complete freedom of design and material selection. Therefore, if you can modify the aircraft so that it meets the definition of an LSA from initial certification on, you can fly it as a sport pilot. We caution against making any modifications to the structure of the aircraft without the approval of the designer. In some cases, it may be just a question of assigning a lower gross weight than what the aircraft was designed for that will allow you to meet the LSA definition. On the Warp Drive blade setting device, I now have the prop set at 25 degrees, which appears to be quite a twist. The engine will still run up to 3700 rpm. Seems like I am chasing two unknowns at the same time. Max power is always achieved at max throttle (I least I can't imagine any exceptions other than mixture goes whacko at WOT or something like that) in a properly running engine, so that's where you start. Sounds like you need more pitch, or a different tachometer! I'd make sure you're measuring it correctly, because that doesn't sound right. If you'll go to http://www.maddyhome.com/corvairsrch/index.jsp and use "warp, pitch, and degrees" as the keyword, you'll get 44 hits on the subject. I seem to remember 15 or 19 degrees or somewhere in there being appropriate for the Corvair. Let us know what you figure out... The GPU's generally had a single mag ignition and some of the accessories may be different or absent. Single mag ignition would probably mean a single plug head, etc. Others more knowledgeable will, I'm sure, add to this. A great many of them have been modified to serve in aircraft use but unless you know what you're doing, you won't get an "aircraft engine" without some work / expense. One: where on the blade are you measuring the angle? If using the tip, you are correct. Many people think you measure at the same place that prop makers measure inches of pitch, at the 50% halfway point, which is wrong by Warp Drive instructions. Second: are you zeroing the protractor first before measuring blade angle? If you do not zero the protractor first on the Warp Drive prop hub then you will be using an eronious reading becasue you are using some other zero or level line not intended for this prop, and will therefore have totally inaccurate results. The question was why modify and go through all the trouble when there were already so many designs approved and ready to build, with less effort, and all the documentation already done. There is enough that gets re-made, or corrected on a standard KR to keep a builder busy for a few extra years without complicating things with fitting into a new category. Your choice.
