It has better be an aircraft engine! Because: - As per international conventions (I think it is part of the Chicago convention), there is no customs duties on aircraft parts for foreign aircraft stranded in anoter country, - and as a consequence, most countries don't charge customs duties on aircraft parts altogether. I remember, while living in South Africa, having paid little or no taxes on anything I imported which had an "aircraft parts" invoice. There is another guy from Brazil that is interested in it and he has not got all his paperwork done and was looking at mid January, but he had it set up so I would crate it and deliver it to the Long Beach, CA dock and he would pay for shipping and all I had to do is drop it off. I have local people interested in it as well... but I definitely recognize your name as a long time KRNet guy so I do feel a little more comfortable if I have to ship it out of the country, but I also need it to be a little easier for me too!!! so if you can do the paperwork for customs or whatever... (don't want to call it an airplane engine .. just a car engine for the paper work) Let me know. Corvair/KR builder-pilot Bill Clapp would certainly know what this book is about; the life of missionary pilot Nate Saint, a pilot with Missionary Aviation Fellowship who died in Ecuador. If you've looked at Glenda McElwee's website, she mentions a trip that she and Bill are planning to fly, down to Ecuador. Bill is familiar with that part of the world! Nate Saint developed an ingenious backup fuel system for use in small, single-engine aircraft that are flown over inhospitable terrain. Missionary Aviation Fellowship used this system on aircraft that they operated, and for all I know they may still be using it. Nate felt that there were enough incidents and accidents caused by fuel system problems that a backup system was justified, so he developed a scheme that uses a small auxiliary fuel tank piped directly to the engine intake, bypassing the fuel selector valve, gascolator, and everything else that can get crudded up along the way. It's controlled by a manual valve, similar to mixture control. He also developed an ingenious way to lower things from a circling airplane to the ground below, using a line and bucket, but that would be giving away the details in the book... ;o) Oscar Zuniga San Antonio, TX mailto: taildrags@hotmail.com website at http://www.flysquirrel.net ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2005 10:14:16 -0700 From: "wilder_jeff Wilder" Subject: RE: KR> 100 hours on the KR today To: krnet@mylist.net Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Congrats on the awesome plane Mark... ! some day soon I'll be there. -Jeff -Jeff Wilder CISSP,CCE,C/EH -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GIT/CM/CS/O d- s:+ a C+++ UH++ P L++ E- w-- N+++ o-- K- w O- M-- V-- PS+ PE- Y++ PGP++ t+ 5- X-- R* tv b++ DI++ D++ G e* h--- r- y+++* ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ >From: "Mark Langford" >Reply-To: KRnet >To: "KRnet" >Subject: KR> 100 hours on the KR today >Date: Sun, 18 Dec 2005 22:15:37 -0600 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from lizard.esosoft.net ([38.118.200.18]) by >bay0-mc2-f17.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.211); Sun, 18 >Dec 2005 20:15:34 -0800 >Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=lizard.esosoft.net)by >lizard.esosoft.net with esmtp (Exim 4.43)id 1EoCQv-0009q8-CG; Sun, 18 Dec >2005 20:15:33 -0800 >Received: from smtp.knology.net ([24.214.63.101])by lizard.esosoft.net with >smtp (Exim 4.43) id 1EoCQa-0009pz-Qsfor krnet@mylist.net; Sun, 18 Dec 2005 >20:15:13 -0800 >Received: (qmail 6671 invoked by uid 0); 19 Dec 2005 04:13:02 -0000 >Received: from unknown (HELO 2600xp) (69.73.127.55)by smtp5.knology.net >with SMTP; 19 Dec 2005 04:13:02 -0000 >X-Message-Info: SuyIeF3cBu/ouP/D23obGljU1v4zztTXB2pheDBv4Rc= >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180 >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180 >X-BeenThere: krnet@mylist.net >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.4 >Precedence: list >List-Id: KRnet >List-Unsubscribe: >, >List-Archive: >List-Post: >List-Help: >List-Subscribe: >, >Errors-To: krnet-bounces@mylist.net >Return-Path: krnet-bounces@mylist.net >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 19 Dec 2005 04:15:34.0756 (UTC) >FILETIME=[DBC49240:01C60452] > >KRnetHeads, > >I hit 100 hours in the KR today, during another 2.5 hour tour of local >airports. I was out over the practice area about 6 miles from the airport at about 3000'. Just sort of burning holes in the sky and practicing steep turns and roll reversals. I was looking down the left wing at the ground and back to the instruments and then up out for a scan of the horizon. And much to my surprise I could barley see out the front canopy as it was covered with oil. I rolled level and was pointed directly at the home field. A quick glance at the EIS showed the engine running normal yet even though it seemed to be dumping a large amount of oil over board. I had been running at full throttle and I reduced it down. I called in to report 5 miles out for a straight inn. A few seconds latter a instructor over the airport called 1000' over the field with a simulated engine out. I called him back and requested a delay as I was rapidly loosing visibility. I held speed at 140 mph and seemed really high at 2 miles out. I slowed to about 110 and dropped full flaps. The sink rate and speed bleed off great and over the numbers at 70 for one of the shortest touch downs yet. All seemed good with the instruments so I taxied right to the hanger and shut down. Smoke poured out of the cowl. There was a big stream of oil from the spinner over the top and to the windscreen. The oil started pouring out of the cowl where the nose gear comes out. I took the cowl off and did not find anything loose disconnected. No broken seals that I could see yet. I put it away and went to breakfast and didn't mention it to my wife or kids. I have not gotten back to look it over but right now I think that the oil cooler sprung a leak. All the oil was located right around it and below it. I'll let everyone know what I find. I think that I lost near 2 quarts total. No temps were high or even above normal and the oil pressure was still at 40# when I shut down.
