Doh! My car broke down on the way to work today so I don't have my charts handy. With a few exceptions min. bend rad. for most materials is equal to the thickness of the metal. The chart has every common alloy of steel, aluminum, copper, brass, etc. and shows their MBR and bend allowance. This sets the wing dihedral at the wing stubs and allows fuel in stub-mounted tanks to sump inboard. I am going to use the AS504x airfoil developed for the KR-2S. I have the AS5048/45 rib templates, available at: http://www.krnet.org/as504x/templates.html. I have a few questions on using a bent spar with the new airfoil. How do the ¼" strips Mark mentions bend the spar? How will the rib templates need to be modified for the bent spar? What effect will the bent spar have on the wing's washout and angle of incidence? You still set the incidence and washout exactly the same way, with a level and the level line on the templates. That tube is stainless, so I don't expect it to wear out too soon. It was temporary though, and my plan was to mount it to the airbox, with scat tubing running to a shorter tube welded to the muff itself. I tried to roll that muff out of .016" stainless, but it's going to have to be something like .006" instead. I'll have to find some of that now, but in the meantime, I'm going to use some .016" aluminum for testing. After reading the question again, I may not have explained that sufficiently. What we're talking about here is bending the spar CAPS, by laminating thinner pieces together in a jig to get the bent shape, and then epoxying the caps together with vertical spacers like the plans call for, and then the plywood facing. See http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/05021101m.jpg for an example of a more radical bend that Dr. Dean made on his airplane. These are 1/8" strips laminated into 5/8" formers for his fuselage formers. He steamed them inside a 3" PVC pipe suspended over a vegetable steamer, and then stretched them around an adjustable jig and epoxied them together. He used an epoxy that's not compromised by the presence of moisture. This bend is unbelievably strong...stronger than a non-laminated piece, and certainly way stronger than a glued 90 epoxied joint. Quarter inch is fine for spar caps because the bend is small and gradual, and steaming isn't necessary. Be prepared to have the strips slide all over the place during lamination though, so make sure your jig keeps that from happening.
