I have about 130 hours on it since the Air Worthiness Certificate about 18 months ago. It has an 1835cc GPVW engine with an Ellison carburettor. It has a Narco 720 channel VHF, transponder with remote altitude indicator. It has full instrumentation including an electric turn and bank, vacuum driven artificial horizon, directional gyro, driven by the biggest venturi available. The first condition inspection was 9/11/2004, with no major problems. It presently has a BRS ballistic chute on it, but the rocket will have to be returned to the friend I borrowed it from, the straps will stay. It is a delight to fly, center stick, very smooth aileron control, the usual pitch sensitivity - but not a problem after a few hours in the plane. I converted it to a tricycle Diehl gear and have the wheel pants though they haven't been installed yet. It indicates about 120 mph at cruise and that's fairly close to what the GPS indicates. It has a 12 gallon header tank and 5 gallon wing tanks (22 gal total). I hate to let the plane go, but I'm retiring and there's no way to travel in it with my wife and luggage. Contact me offline at dsprague01@aol.com if you're interested. I'm looking for $12,900, pretty much what I have in it (not counting labor, of course). I will get some pictures in the next couple of days. I'm selling this as an operating experimental airplane. The new prop is working great, has a 1000 fpm climb at 105 mph IAS, yields an economy cruise 120 mph (105 knots )IAS @ 26-2700 rpms, and fast cruise of 135 mph (122 knots) IAS @ 3000-3100 rpms. Max speed is 141 mph (130 knots) @ 3250 rpms. Stall speeds have been confirmed now at 69 mph power on, 71 mph power off, with or without speed brake. It is my contention (opinion) that since the speed brake does not effect the stall speeds, it is not producing significant lift, or the stall speeds should reduce reflecting the additional lift added. Takeoff roll is now something like 700-800 feet solo, and with simulated passenger 1200-1500 feet. Once airborne it climbs almost the same approximately 800 fpm at gross. Average fuel burn..... 3.5 gallons per hour! Got to love it. Adjusted tension on aileron cables yesterday to get better control harmony, and all feels good. Still have a hard time with how good that rudder is! 11.8 hours and counting.... This was very evident when making turns on the ground because centrifugal force would slosh the fuel away from the pick up tube. Also would happen if sitting on unleveled ground as gravity would pull the fuel away from the pick up allowing air in. Those stall speeds , I'm assuming, are indicated and a bit on the high side. My KR, at 765 pounds empty, is off and flying at just a slight bit over 50mph "indicated" and stalls at altitude at well under 60 mph indicated. My ASI seems to be fairly accurate through most of the level flight ranges. I can slow-flight with ultralights (Kolbs, Challengers, etc.) at about 60 mph indicated. I'm GUESSING my actual stall speed is probably around 55 mph. Just got back from airport and did a flight of just pattern work, my favorite stuff. 18 circuits in 1.3 on hobbs averaging just over 4 min a lap. Temp was 65 degrees when started, and rose to 70 while flying. Wind was calm in the beginning, and grew to 10 gusting to 15 knots by the halfway point, 45 degrees to runway and variable. I believe that I found the maximum demonstrated cross wind today. By the time I finished pattern work today, the wind was 15 gusting to 20 knots from 150 degrees, which according to the wiz wheel puts the crosswind portion at 90 degrees to be a value of 15 knots, the other 5 knots would be headwind. I was touching down on the right main first, and directly after the left touched down, I was running out of aileron to hold the wing down and prevent weather-vaning. I was also using just over half rudder which is unusual for this KR. So, I think I established my max crosswind: 15 knots @ 90 degrees. WHEW! Fun but hard work. WAAHHEEEYYY...ooops YEEEEHAAAW! I am Tired!!! FLY SAFE! You will also need to CC the heads to get the compression ratio that you desire. While fond of the Navy color, it looked a bit dark after the shirt was embroidered and allowed to hang on the rack in the hallway for several days. I sincerely hope this decision does not cause any great concern to anyone and that your enthusiasm for attending the Gathering will reach YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAA pitch come September. There is no need to respond to this e-mail unless this decision has caused you to re-think your KR project, not attend the Gathering, give up flying, sell the kids, or other such irrational actions. :-) Larry Flesner 2005 KR Gathering Host ------------------------------ Message: 15 Date: Sun, 20 Feb 2005 19:31:34 -0600 From: "Brant Hollensbe" Subject: Re: KR> Gathering shirts/hats To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <000401c517b5$145d85c0$0702a8c0@bruntson> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Hi Larry Are you needing warm bodies to staff the sign in/info table this year? I appreciate your willingness to help out again this year and may at some point ask for volunteers. Having the experience of running one Gathering I learned where the "knots" are at in the rope and hope to enter the 2005 Gathering with the rope a bit less tangled. Running the 2004 Gathering took too much of my time at the event and too much time of several of those attending when they were asked to volunteer. We are there to enjoy the company of fellow builders/flyers and to learn as much as possible about the construction of the KR aircraft. I got to make one flight in my KR during the entire event. That will change for 2005. I'm expecting more help from the local EAA chapter this year but if that doesn't pan out I'll not hesitate to ask for help. That, and the groundwork having been laid from the first Gathering, should make 2005 a much more enjoyable event for me also.
