Here is the link: http://kr-builder.org/SergeVidal/ElectronicIgnition/index.html The pictures are from my archives, and that's the best I could come with. If I am not mistaken, I have a spare set in my cellar, so I will check it for marks, brand names, and Part Numbers, and make extra pics. As far as the rigging is concerned, you will have to wait until my next visit to my aircraft. In the meantime, questions are welcome. Steve, maybe you should have a look at the site, and check if these parts look familiar. That will teach you the rudder pedal dance. I actually found my KR to be a little more tame on the ground than a Citabria, but not quite as tame as a Super Cruiser or a Pawnee. The sensitivity of the KR in the air is another matter and won't be learned in a Citabria. If you have any flight schools near you that have a Pitts or Extra it might be a good idea to get a little time in one. I have not flown either of those so others on the list can better comment on this. To: krnet@mylist.net Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed I know it's not Friday but this is aviation related. If anyone wants to come on by, we will have a great time. I'm sending this now instead of Friday so if any of the KR gang would want to come, you might have a couple days heads up. Everyone is welcome. OK, like you didn't know it before but we are ON for this Saturday!! Just a heads up, the army depot airspace has been relaxed but do yourself a favor, and me. If you are coming from the north, stay west of the City or Richmond, from the south stay west of the City of Berea, from the east just overfly Richmond or Berea and keep interstate I-75 to the east of you. Remember i39. Heard a request from down TN way about air traffic. For those who did not attend last year, we had well in excess of 100 airplanes, I stopped counting RVs at 87 by noon. The air was full of "inbound flight of 3, behind the flight of 7, behind the flight of 2 entering downwind, which is behind the.............................gaggle of RV turning base not counting those on final", anyway you get the drift. It is an uncontrolled airspace without any formal NOTAMs so treat is as such and keep your head turning. If we are landing on 36, try and make the turnoff, you will have something like 1500' plus to keep from back taxiing. If you can't, hustle on back. People will be on the taxiway to direct you to the ramp or taxiway for parking. Parking on the taxiway grass is "pick your own spot" but try and tuck it up as close as you can, as we just about filled up the taxiway last year. Ramp parking is first come first serve except for the formation flyers of TeamRV and OVRVators. Once again you are asked to tuck it up but be safe, you are responsible for your own aircraft. Bring along chocks, forget tiedowns on the ramp but OK for taxiway parking. I have commitments from about 60 RVs so far and I didn't ask for RSVPs. That's about what I had last year and we had close to 100 total RVs attend. I did see some weather that will be to the southeast of us but the forecast for Sat. at i39 is clear on Friday, clear on Sat. with temp of 48, 10% chance of precip, 52 on Sunday with 0% precip. Looks like we have a great window. Food. Here is the good part...........sorry wives (Elaine made me say that). Hooters called yesterday to confirm 1000 wings and two Hooters girls (still trying to sch. the two girls). My answer was, $#@% #$&7 @%#$* YES, you plug in anything you want:-) The food will be free, all I ask is you tip the girls (not literally) and donate to the hat. If I come up short on funds, no big deal but it does cost some money to put this on and I am building a new log home (gotta get the funds any legal way possible man!!). If I had bought them just for the cowl I would have used the cheaper rolled hinges that are plenty strong for the application, but I had a bunch of extra extruded hinge. The problem with the extruded hinge is that the hinge pin fits much tighter and you have a lot harder time getting the pin in and out if your alignment is not perfect. Fortunately, a KR has a relatively straight cowl at the attach point so it is not usually a problem, but my Mustang has a fairly rounded cowl shape and the hinge goes around a gradual curve. I have found that if you have a very tight hinge pin that you can take a long hinge pin and beat it about an inch from the end with a hammer to flatten it. Then you file it sort of rectangular to get the correct size and sharp corners. File a bullet shape on the end and you can put it in a drill and use it to make the holes bigger. It depends on several factors including the hardness of the base metal. I was checking into cad plating some wing attach fittings a while back and was told by the plater that if the steel was over a certain Rockwell hardness that they would have to do a stress relief bake after plating. It involved bringing the part up to something like 250 degrees for about 12 hours if I remember correctly. It was a temperature that would not degrade the original heat treating of the metal, but would cure the hydrogen embrittlement problem. Your best bet with plating aircraft parts if you must is to talk to a plater that knows what they are doing. I work with a shop that does mil spec plating and works with several aircraft parts manufacturers. Your local motorcycle or auto plating shop would not be recommeded. I am not 100% sure. When I decided to expand the system, I took my parts to a bike junkyard, and asked them to give me the same ones. There were many look-alikes to choose from, because most Japanese 4-cylinder bikes of that time used the same set-up. Hi KRers The ignition system I think Serge is talking about would be from any Honda CB750, CB900, CB1000 or CB1100 from 1979-1983. I would need to see then to be sure. They are a fairly basic CDI ignition system but quite reliable (at least for the 18 yrs that I've been with Honda). I may think about that one for the Subaru I may build for my KR 1 1/2.
